this red one?
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/786877.htm
I really like the red one but I'm worried it would stand out too much and attract unwanted attention and get vandalised easily, a darker colour would blend in more and wouldn't go pink.
Any link to the white one forsale on here?
I've got the money to spend but I'm worried I'm going to end up with a scrapper

yes thats the red one, beat me to it
looks very good but what puts me off is the "slight oil leak" if its the profile gasket which it probably is as he says its a common problem its a head off job

Yeah that's putting me off too, I asked him about it but didn't seem to understand what i was on about, said the leak comes and goes depending on the oil level. I'm not sure how the oil level varies though, unless it uses some and then he tops it up?
I read loads of people getting good 318IS's for £500-£1000, but I can stretch to about £1400 but can't find any that are up to scratch

The oil leak might be a rocker cover gasket, you'd be very unlucky to get a profile gasket fail this late on, as most were replaced under warranty.
A few people have had some very good finds, Jon_BMW, Alex, magpie all paid under £800 for their cars, but be careful, I bought an iS blind thinking it was a bargain, turned out to be a rusted electrically challenged shitter.

i paid 500 for mine with 12month mot and 7 month tax and its just as good as that for £1400 if not better
you just have to be paitient for the cheap ones, they guy who was selling it was selling it as a px as an old runabout he thought it was a normal 318i and thought the 130k was high mileage, but in the recipts the guy who traded it for a new bmw had paid £1650 for it in 2006/7 so that for £1400 is priced about rite

I reckon the white one looks a wee bit rusty from the other pics he sent, but it 300 miles away from me so I can't just nip round and check lol I'm willing to travel for the right car but not the wrong car, but it's really hard to tell just by looking at photo's

NO i wouldnt sell even for 2k its that good, has a small bit of rust under the towing eye and a small bit on passanger wheel arch about the size of a 5p piece at the bottom, but there getting done in the summer its the best condition e30 thats been outside my house and between me and my step dad thats about 10
Yeah I wouldn't sell it either. So what good deed did you do to get that kind of Karma?
Recently looked properly at the service history. Brand new(although I presume recon) BMW engine fitted at 150k by a specialist.
The previous owner said it had, had an engine change, but he assumed it was an e36 jobby with low mileage. I am a little bit pleased with the find, if you believe the service book!
Its all signed by him at the independant who serviced it from 60k onwards.
If I was to sell mine, with the LPG and the fact its not got any hidden nasties I would want around £2000 I think. The more I use it, the more I save money, compared to another petrol vehicle.

Jon's car put down good figures (by M42 standards) at fritz's RR day last year, if Cook318IS's cars alternate dyno figures are anything to go by.

Would I do that?
On the downside the shell has done 212k, but its still a very, very solid car with more than respectable paint. The interior is almost mint with no bolster wear. No fat fuckers have been in this one. It was a rep mobile when it was new as it covered 60k miles in 3 years, which probably reduced seat wear with longer journeys.

His car was unbelievably cheap, also when you consider he's made about £1k back from breaking his previous car IIRC.Alex wrote:magpie only paid £350 for his
£700 for mine, the engines not bad (now sitting in my touring), all new disks and calipers that'll be fitted to my touring with new pads and braided lines soon and a pretty good nick interior that I'll get round to stripping out and selling soon. The rest of it will be crushed and sent to China. Ah well, the touring was free

150-160bhp seems feasible with the few "tried and tested" tuning mods on fairly fresh M42s. Going over that is expensive though!Alex wrote:i was using the search button earlier and there was a few people who had got 160bhp with a chip and BBTBGrindCulture wrote:Jon's car put down good figures (by M42 standards) at fritz's RR day last year, if Cook318IS's cars alternate dyno figures are anything to go by.

Hope some luck will come my way soon, can't afford the petrol, insurance or replacement head gaskets on a 325, and I've had a 318 M40 and that was too slow so it has to be a 318IS

They pop up every now and then, you just need to be patient. If the worst comes to the worst M42 conversions are easy if you have the space. Having a sense of humour works well on here if you drive an iS toorossmc88 wrote:Hope some luck will come my way soon, can't afford the petrol, insurance or replacement head gaskets on a 325, and I've had a 318 M40 and that was too slow so it has to be a 318IS

Cough, 160, BS, Cough!
The only way I think you can get an m42 to that level is a 1.9litre bottom end, custom management and some tweeking on the cam timing. I never 'got' BBTB's. Sheps had a customer with the above setup and it broke over 160 IIRC, but this is far from a simple chip and BadBorethrottlebody.

I'm sure mine would go better with a proper exhaust rather than the bodged M40 item. I've got a fresh clutch and flywheel assembly too that might end up getting lightened and dropped in. A proper exhaust and a good service and mine should be back on form. All these little plans eh...

I'm pretty sure you could get a TB machined for less, then reassemble it yourself. There's a guide somewhere on how to make WOT more true on M42 TBs. I'll see if I can dig it up.
