I am calm, but you are passing comment on something you've never done, or looked into from the sound of it!Rav335uk wrote:Calm down jhonno, only an opinion as i personally haven't done one yet.![]()
The m30 just seemed easy to me, so just going of experience mate

I think they have the 51mm struts but you'll still have to change the springs if you're doing from 4 pot to 6...Alex wrote:i knew they had discs all around but i thought 4 pot tourings still had the smaller strutsgooner1 wrote:..... and disc,s all round Alex. It is straight forward though, wiring is a piece of proverbial, I had mine done in less than 45 mins having never done an M50 beforedaimlerman wrote:M50 conversion looks straightforward on paper, but just look at the problems that ordinary zoners like myself and E30beemerlad are encountering with our swaps. There are two difficult areas on this swap, one is sorting the engine loom to suit the E30 and the other is the exhaust manifold/downpipe. Remember that the M50 cylinder head is not only wider, but the engine sits at a different angle so no standard exhaust downpipe fits without mods, similar story to the manifold, front is not too difficult but the rear needs considerable work.To produce a working system that will pass a noise test and flow reasonabley well you need to be a far better welder than I am,worth thinking about... costwise,my E34 donor was £350,but of couse that is only the start, you need to be budgeting maybe £1000 or more, depending on how much you have to farm out.

The V8's are awesome motors but dropping them in an E30 isn't cheap. Check out all the bits and work needed for Jonsku's beautiful V8 cabbie.citizensnips wrote:m60/62, its all about the torque, way over 200bhp before you think about doing anything to the engine

Like Jhonno said you've over complicated it with the lhd problem.daimlerman wrote:200bhp from an M20 will require a capacity increase with all the associated costs.180bhp will cost about £1500,each 10bhp thereafter an additional £1000.M50 conversion looks straightforward on paper, but just look at the problems that ordinary zoners like myself and E30beemerlad are encountering with our swaps. i'm doing one myself, m60 sat on workshop floor at moment, i'm somewhat behind jonsku as i'm welding on new sills and rear arches and rear corners and inumerable patches. its not cheap but i love v8'sGrindCulture wrote:The V8's are awesome motors but dropping them in an E30 isn't cheap. There is when you bolt an M50 2.5 manifold on to the 2.8; instant 220bhp + remap to around 240bhpAlex wrote:yer the 325i was 192 and the 328i is 193, i thinkd6dph wrote:All to do with taxes in Germany I think Alex. The 328 was only 1 hp more than the 325 I seem to remember.
im guessing there is no difference between an e36 328i and 325i then
The 328 may only have 1bhp more than the 2.5 but has more torqe 206Ibft compared to the 2.5's 184Ibft and as Jazman said if you fit the m50 manifold on the 2.8 and mapped 240bhp is available and alot more torqeJazzMan wrote:There is when you bolt an M50 2.5 manifold on to the 2.8; instant 220bhp + remap to around 240bhpAlex wrote:yer the 325i was 192 and the 328i is 193, i thinkd6dph wrote:All to do with taxes in Germany I think Alex. How much?????????????????burgoil wrote:Flozman wrote:whats the going rate for the M50 conversion? i just dont have any place to do it myself!
1200 quid fitted...if you provide the doner car

depends how much he wants it doing if he cant do it...includes remap to 200bhp+Rav335uk wrote:How much?????????????????burgoil wrote:Flozman wrote:whats the going rate for the M50 conversion? i just dont have any place to do it myself!

I would say 200bhp is possible without touching the bottom end.daimlerman wrote:200bhp from an M20 will require a capacity increase with all the associated costs.180bhp will cost about £1500

seems like a good gain better than the hottuning ones, what power was it pushing out before, or dont you knowbss325i wrote:I would say 200bhp is possible without touching the bottom end.daimlerman wrote:200bhp from an M20 will require a capacity increase with all the associated costs.180bhp will cost about £1500
Arguments aside, i got 185bhp and 190lbft from only a £650 manifold and £400 exhaust but to be honest i dont think the exhaust is much of an improvement over a standard one power wise.

Well theres £1050 and as i said earlier, its still chaper to get and install a m30bss325i wrote:I would say 200bhp is possible without touching the bottom end.daimlerman wrote:200bhp from an M20 will require a capacity increase with all the associated costs.180bhp will cost about £1500
