why didnt they sell a 320is here with the s14 engine as in portugal ?
Because ALL 320iS's were LHD to!
i see, a right hand version of either would have been the way forward for bmw then.

no thats what their sport was called. Sports in south africa were badged this also but fitted with an alpina 2.7 and a host of other goodies

Australia recieved basically the same sport as the UK but in much lower numbers

Just because it has a code, doesn't mean its an option.

Code 850* Additional Fuel, code 925* AG Transit Protection, code812* GB Specification etc are not options available

335* M TECHNIC SPORT PACKAGE is just a sum off parts/options that go into a sport.

As you can see from the print out that things like M technic 2 steering wheel, 15"BBS alloy wheels, M technic 2 body kit which are standard on sports are not on the print out, this is because these with a few other items make up code 335* M TECHNIC SPORT PACKAGE.

Yes i did say that. There no such thing as sport package option in the brochure, just sport as a model.

*335 is just a manufacturing code for the production line surely?

Its not so pikey now is it!

Or normal iS's that come with a black headlining. Some iS's such as Adi's one didn't though. I think that most did though.

my old sterling silver iS had a black headline

i'd say yes 335 option is what makes them a sport as you think it adds all the right parts to it

Same why i guess as the SE would have a build code to tell the production line it wanted side skirts and an OBC?

if you look at his spec sheet you'll see stars next to all bar 1. * means extras. The only thing standard was the sunroof. The new owner had to add the options from new. Remember there was no such thing as a sport in Germany where they where built

I expect 335 option was available to them but they just didn't call it a sport

The fact that there was no such car as a sport in Germany is interesting,
wher did the term "sport " originate from ?

BMW UK. They created it from the available factory options and sold it as a package.

So , if there is no such thing as a sport, any 325i with the added options, whenever they were added can be classed as a sport, surely. :?

Has anyone on here got a German brochure from the time to see what the equivalent was in Europe ?

I've got several UK ones - the sport was definately a stand alone model in the UK listed separately to the normal 325i/SE.

The only performance difference as such between a sport and a standard 325i is better in-gear acceleration ( in 4th 80-120kmh ), and slightly different fuel consumption. 0-60 and top speed are the same.

As far as what spec a sport has, the only further options you could specify would have been an Auto Box, Leather, Air con and OBC ( I think - only seems to state OBC was standard on the SE models ) - apart from those mentioned it pretty much had the lot as far as "options" goes.

I like Sports - always have - can't see me ever owning one now though - pay too much scene tax ! :(

Bizarrely sunroof appears to be an option on the base models and Sport - an electric sunroof was only fitted as standard on the SE models.

I would have thought that whatever you specified on the order form would come fitted at build stage from the factory. I don't think there were that many "dealer fit" options as such - maybe stuff like cassette holders and different ICE but more major stuff like bodywork and suspension would form part of the factory build.
