16" new alpinas
Moderator: martauto
Genuine Alpina alloys are made by Ronal, not Borbet.
I've bought two brand new 16x8 alpinas from my local BMW dealer and have had about 15-20 seconhnd ones pass through my hands, all Ronal.
Where does it say made under licence by Borbet?

The part numbers on that web site are correct though.

If you click on "larger Picture" the 7 x 16 is stamped ALPINA and also BORBET's, where as you carry on clicking "NEXT" and the 8 x 16 is only stamped ALPINA.
Confusing????

If you Got "Haters",Then your doing something Right!

Done, see what they sayemail to company wrote:Hi Alloywheelsdirect,
Can you give me some further info egarding the wheels in the below link. They are Borbet 'S' type Alpina wheels. As far as I'm aware these were/are only made by Ronal or Alpina themselves, no license has ever been given to any other maker.

If you can send me something to suggest i'm wrong (maybe a scanned document from BMW/Alpina i'm sure they'll be snapped up!
Kind Regards
I've just checked the wheels on my car. It came with 4 reconditioned 16x7 Alpina. Just after buying the car I replaced one wheel as it turned out to be well and truly out of true even though it was reconditioned! I bought the new wheel through my BMW dealer so I know it should be genuine. My wheels have Alpina cast into them but not Borbet or Ronal.
The ones made by ronal dont have ronal cast into them.rmt wrote:I've just checked the wheels on my car. It came with 4 reconditioned 16x7 Alpina. Dont alll the rims come out of the same factory though

Considering Selling the Cabby, looks like its gonna go
Obviously not. If you click on the link and make the picture larger it had a pic of a genuine alpina with BORBET cast into it.cliffybabe wrote:Dont alll the rims come out of the same factory though

On most of the alloys ive seen there is CJJ or JJC (something) similar in the casting stage from the production plant

Does it really matter?? Im just happy that a reputable wheelmaker (ie one that wont buckle the first sign of a pothole) has some of these available to buy with the wider rears for an E30 -
Ive been through about 5 sets and all had one or two with a buckle in them and could not be put right which was pain in the ass - although it never stopped anyone begging me to sell them on....
Surely happy days??! - although would be great if they were cheaper imao..

The Softlines I have on my E46 have Ronal cast into them, however I've seen some made by BBS! I guess it depends on supply and demand and who has spare manufacturing capacity - or size capability.
I would imagine that Alpina get them made by batches and by whoever comes in with the best price for their given specification. Why should they be different to any other supplier who out sources manufacturing to a third party?
IMO the wheels on that site are genuine Alpina sourced wheels.

I would love a set of these
fascinating thread! i just had to go and check my genuine alpinas, out of curiosity (no, they're not on the car, i'm not THAT keen).
the front ones read; KBA 40731 on the part of the rim between the spokes opposite the tyre valve, and 7Jx16H2, 3611125, ALPINA, e28 in between the bolt holes in the centre. on one spoke on the back it reads; RONAL and on the spoke next to it; 94 12
the rear wheels read(in the same areas); KBA 41144, and 8Jx16H2, 3611129, ALPINA, e28, and RONAL 94 12
i am 100% sure that these are genuine. hope this helps, but i'm fascinated to know. the quality and engineering of the metal centre caps and locks is amazing, a world away from the plastic push-on type!
lastly, are there no such things as genuine alpina 17" 4-stud wheels, are they all replicas? i'm buying some that the zoner swears are genuine 17s which he had on his 325.
i guess i'll have to check properly first.

Genuine 17" 4 stud Alpina alloys were fitted to the Alpina Z1 RLE and uber rare!adit wrote:fascinating thread! i just had to go and check my genuine alpinas, out of curiosity (no, they're not on the car, i'm not THAT keen).
