Is there a way to identify the fuel gauge as being for a 55 or 62 litre fuel tank (other than by waiting until I run out of fuel)? I was wondering if it had any markings or serial number on it if I were to open up the instrument cluster.

I have a 1986 Sport that probably doesn't have its original instrument cluster as the mileage has been altered. The fuel gauge in that cluster doesn't appear to work but I have another spare cluster that I swapped over to and that does show a reading. However, I'm not convinced it's correct and I don't know what car it came from either.

I'll play around with it more tomorrow, but it would be nice to know the gauge I have is meant for the fuel tank I have.

Another similar question in this area: the little white coding plugs in those clusters... they have a number on them. Do those numbers identify which engine size they're to be used with? I have a 10, a 15, and an 18.
