thats the one! althought i would do it myself so not in my case! mine is low enough mileage that it should be ok tho, apparently they go between 125k and 175k mines only on 90k.

It's the N/A version so not as prone as the Turbo to mullering headgaskets, same basic 7M engine though

Still have a soft spot for the MK3 supra, prefer it to the MK4

MA61 has some appeal but the dash is truly horrid and they just dissolve like mad.

They go nice with the Lexus V8 in them :)

If you are silly enough to take it to a main dealer, yes. If you catch the early warning signs and do the job before the head wraps, you can have it knocked out in a weekend with £100 worth of parts...

OP:

Do yourself a massive favour and retorque the head bolts to the proper specs, now. That "they go at xxxxxxx miles" is BS. I've owned two, both suffered from a BHG, my current one is a ropey fuck at 141k with (currently getting sold in bits because I can't be arsed to finish the HG job (it is a total fucker by the way)) and my old was had 86,000 on the clock with full toyota Service history. Didn't stop the HG going though...

The head bolts weren't torqued to the correct specs across the board, (56lbs/ft instead of 72lbs/ft). Turbos are more prone to going, but it seriously isn't worth taking the risk with the NA - If that HG goes and you over heat, you are likely to wrap the head and create a MASSIVE ballache for yourself.

That, and check the oil regularly. I personally run the oil over max (well I would if I had a running car ) - The other weak spot on the 7Ms is the shit oiling system - Taking a sharp turn could be enough to strave the engine of oil long enough to fuck the big ends, and that's yet another MASSIVE ballache.

Other than that, they are pretty solid tanks. Just watch out for rust!

Do you mind me asking a bit more about your car, how much you paid etc? After my project shitter is off my hands I'll be looking to buy a minter (can't be arsed with projects anymore).

Oh, and if you have got a post 89, be sure to get it decatted - it's robbing about 14hp from ya from the factory ;).

Mine is an 86 with 99 on the clock. full mot and payed £500 for it so i cant really lose, i would imagine its worth more than that in bits even if it does turn out to be a shitter

I only presume its a turbo technics conversion. You'd need to look at it before bidding, there is probably a whole tale of woe attached to it, but then gibson is fairly local to it.

TT did some sierra xr4x4 conversions, so I suspect it might be them. Customer or Ford could have dropped it straight round to them perhaps?

Didn't Janspeed do turbo conversions for the cologne V6 also back in the day?

Very few but yes i think they did!

Funnily enough i have been watching that capri since about ten minutes after it went onto ebay! i love it, i was after a white one aswell!
i was a bit dubious about "turbo from the facotry" sound sketchy to me

I will get some piccies up of the supra, i only payed £350 for it in the end and im chuffed, its an absolute abuse whore, mechanically ok but the body work is a bit shit... which is just what i want for my ring trip in april.

Are LSD's standard? because this one has one. it also has a nasty knock from the front suspension and a shot centre bearing on the prop

don't think LSD were standard on the N/A versions but may be wrong

Hope your knock on the front end isn't lower arm bushes as I don't believe you can buy bushes on their own, whole arm needed at about £150 a side. Under what circumstances does the front knock occur?

My brother has made his own bushes from a solid bar of PTFE type stuff on a lathe

i take it you are aware of www.mkiiisupra.net ?

LSDs are standard on all UK cars.

Looks like a very good buy, just what I am after myself!

Good Luck with it

I had one of those Supra's when it was 4 years old, looked a lovely car, nice interior and sounded nice. I bought it, "then" drove it and regretted buying it. Biggest piece of rubbish I had driven for a long time. You see it was an Automatic and was wollowy, it belonged to America!

Needless to say, I never judge a book by its cover now :D

the extra time you have on your hands due to not having to fix anything mechanical can be put to good use repairing all the rust in the paper thin metal.

i had the mk2. ill look out some receiepts for prices on that to give you a fright if you think bmw main dealer prices are high. off the top of my head £600 for a pair of front calipers, £180 for a wing, nearly £400 for a door, £100 for a piece of window trim.....and in those days you couldnt get pattern parts it was main dealer or nothing....
