hi everyone, can someone help with this question please....
i have a 316i touring and need a new front section (with cat) for my car. is it the same a s a 318 exhaust section or are they different?
can i use an exhaust section from a non cat car to de-cat mine while im replacing that section???

mine is a '93 touring 316i manual.

cheers.

According to ETK both 316i and 318i (all models) share the same front exhaust/cat

as in http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partxref.do? ... showeur=on

do you think this covers all age e30's??? if so meaning the non cat pipes will fit in place of the cat pipes?????

see http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partgrp.do?m ... g=18&fg=05

it would appear that the two parts are interchangeable...

If you fit non cat pipes to your car it WILL fail the MOT and you will have to install a cat for it to pass the emmisions

Not necessarily!
If a '93 touring is fitted with a pre 8/92 engine (like the blue one in my sig.), then it will be tested to the older regulations.
You could change the engine for an older one, but consider that a post 8/92 M40 engine looks exactly like a pre 8/92 M40 engine, especially if the engine numbers were to have been accidentally defaced and unreadable.
