Hi All, ok this post could end up being really long, but i got an idea, lets list things that we have done to our E30's since owning them, think of it also as a list of common faults that were fixed or to be fixed. also the emphasis is not on completely tricked out e30's that are so tricked out they are almost not e30's anymore, we're talking subtle here and keeping with the e30 theme.

I will start: ive had my 4dr 325i now for around 2yrs:
mine WAS stock standard:

1) fitted 16" hartge h27 wheels with bridgestone my01 16in 205/50 's
2) sound quality sound system
3) boot makeover
4) fix petrol flap and bootlock central locking
5) fix rear passenger electric window
6) fix driverside electric window (would pull skew at the top allowing windnoise)
7) overhaul all electric window mechanisms and motors, remove grease, new grease
8) replace small little motor that sits behind the OBC vent thingy, was making a buzzing sound

9) 3mm brushed ally cluster rings, needles painted ferrari RED
10) remove e30 speaker front/rear fader knob
11) fit mtech 2 steering wheel
12) fit mtech2 maplight mirror
13) fit mtech gearknob
14) with #3, complete soundsystem, amp,shuttle,sub---for soundquality iasca comps
15) custom speaker kickpanels
16) leave e30 in the sun alittle too often without windshield reflector guard allowing 2 or 3 smallish dashboard cracks
17) have 2 spare keys cut - bmw key with light
18) fit working glovebox light
19) replace heater valve - heater now works

COMING SOON:
1) z3 1.9 short shifter (all parts acquired just waiting for z3 1.9 lever from germany)
2) 3.64 lsdiff - bought just waiting to fit
3) new clutch - sachs
4) remove wiper motor and re-grease - to fix stuttering wiper problem
5) e34 headlight adjusters electric - retrofit to replace e30 hydraulic wiper adjusters
6) color code bumpers tophalf and bottom half, leaving only centre bumper pieces black
7) fit unichip

forgot to add:

Boot, and rear area of car has RECEIVED LOTS Of soundpoofing in the form of SECONDSKIN AUDIO SPECTRUM SPRAY
doors have also received the treatment.

all providing a substantially quieter ride...

just need to do the ROOF still (removing roof lining could be tricky) must also do the cars A pillars with expanding foam..

cheers

thanks glad you like them, they are ring 6" driving and fog lamps.

i mounted the fogs onto the bumper , drilled a 10mm hole then bolted them on, leveled them to the same hight as the normal fog/driving lamps.

the centre lamps are wired into the main beam and are leveled as they look , so the pattern is under the original main beam, if that makes sense. these are bolted onto the front valence.

Makes sense, I have a set of those ring driving lights but they're on a mate's 205 at the moment, never used them myself, should really be able to recognise them :o:. What kind of prjection do the spots give compared with the normal main beam? I really want a longer throw and if they're longer mr 205 will be relieved of his spots. Do you find that they're stable enough just bolted onto the valance or do they bounce around a bit?

the only reason they are on the valance is i cut the bumper down, for you i would fix directly to the bumper, it's alot more stable, i'm going to put a metal plate to steady them abit.

at night with the main beam-spot combo on my mate couldn't see the road in front of him, too bright

I once got told a neat trick that might help you. Since they're not in a position to use steady bars, a neat way of steadying them from the top would be to cut a Jubilee clip, pop rivet one end on to the top of the lights and the other end to the car; then you have adjustable tightness :).

Unfortunately because of a restriction to 4 beams in my competitions unless I can somehow come up with a single housing for the inner and outer I'm stuck without spots. My current plan is to bodge a pair of KC Daylighters into the inners for better distance projection and leave it at that.

What bulbs do you use and how have you done the wiring?

mine are just 55w , and i've wired them into the main beam loom, also changed the fuses from 7.5 to 15 amp

there is a car on the advert for eta motorsport with spots on, might give you an idea

Could you not use HID's in the mains? They're not too keen on being flashed and take a few seconds to warm up but once they are warm the light output is fantastic, only draw 35 watts too so no need for upgraded wireing.

On mine ive not done much really, apart from drive the thing.

DIY smoked headlamps
HID kit in council spec 6000K
Rear wheel bearing
Front track-rod
Sump gasket
New 3 piece exhaust front and middle sections on a 2nd hand magnex back box
A good service

FUTURE
LPG kit, got all the parts bar a data-cable now and a 3 day weekend winkeye
40/40 drop with new shock absorbers
M3 eccentric lower arm bushes ( got to replace the o/s arm, so why not)
And get some spare wheels, steelys will do so i can re-furb the BBS and treat them to some decent rubber
New brakes all round

Probably some other bits and bats too.

The small issue with HIDs is that they are banned from my competitions, I'm more than happy with them but unfortunately I'd be more than happy with 6 cylinders and more than happy with a turbo none of which I'm allowed.

On the spots you might want to try shoving a multimeter over the bulb and see how much voltage is across them compared with the battery, if you losing lots of volts then you might benefit from relaying them with separate wiring to the battery.

So far I've only had the car a month or so but my overly exhaustive list is as follows:

Replaced clutch master cylinder
Replaced front pads
Replaced front exhaust mount
Cut back rust hole and protect, awaiting welding
Sand back rust bubbles on arches and spray
Respray rear quarter after getting keyed
Replaced stereo
Replaced heater control panel after original got damaged with stereo being stolen.
Uprated bulbs in mains
Converted to standard headlights and back to smoked hellas with HIDs, will convert back to standard again :?
Installed harnesses
Acquired dash for flocking
Polish, wax, rain-ex etc.
Adjusted rear brakes.
+whatever I've forgotten
