your paranoid. perhaps they had just dropped of their dear old granny after taking her to tescos to do her shopping and they were in the street picking up all the oranges that had dropped and rolled away after the plastic bag had split?

I reckon you're just being paranoid. If the had turned up in your average Saxo Chavmobile, then I'd be weary, but they have an e30 themselves, they're probably enthusiasts who wanted to have a look, but when they saw you, got embarrassed and headed back home.

There's a wonderful M3 that is parked just around the corner from that I'd love to get a proper look at, but won't just in fear that the owner will see me and think I'm going to nick it just because I'm a young lad showing interest in his car :(.

Also you mentioned somebody stealing the covers off of your Honda's wheels - Don't you think that stealing a 10 grands worth of car is a bit of a step up from taking a fiver worth of plastic? :D.

maybe your being paranoid and maybe not?

in fallowfield, ok its not as nice as stockport, i left my e30 on the road over night (put on road at 11pm) ready to call the tow company in the morning and by 9:00am it was gone  they move fast!

either that or the council tow cars during the night???

i see loads of e30's in manchester! most are not good examples but still there are plenty.

I have a black tourer (live in sale) but its not been on the road for ages, so it aint me!!! also my reg is different (see pics on link below) and i admit if i saw an m3 i would slow down or stop to have a look.

sounds like you have a few bmw's so i would be having a look to see them. bit geeky but i would have too. so maybe they are just enthusiast like us???

dont take any risks though.... those tourers have plenty of space in the boot for a set of shinny wheels

Mate you on drugs?? 8)

What do you do if you see a very nice looking motor?? You look and admire, right? So should the owner of that motor be paranoid you are going to rob the car?????

Take it as a compliment and if you still feeling paranoid, just put tracking devices in your all your motors, a simple but expensive option but least the police will know where your car is if it is taken.

Tracker -

1. A crunchy, fruity muesli bar launched during the eighties.

2. A VHF/GPS based system that upon remote interrogation will commence reporting the location of a vehicle so the police can locate it and finger the thieves.

what about getting a security post mate, they can be a decent deterrent, maybe one at the end of the drive and one outside the garage door?

I reckon a combined tracker that works on GPS and GPRS would be great. The gps will work when the car is out on the open road and pinpoint its exact position really easily. The GPRS is a mobile phone signal device and can get it down to about 100 metres squared which is pretty good really for when a scumbag has tucked it up in a garage.

With a bit of know how I think they can be built for around £50-80. I am in the process of persuading my brother to make me one. He is a saddo and likes electronics.

Usually when electronics work at 110% they catch fire and burn out. Im not a big fan of electronics when they do that.

I have come across a couple of interesting anti-theft/deterrant systems.

A mate who had a hillclimb car used to jack one of the rear wheels just high enough to slip a wooden block under the rear axle, so it looked like it was on the floor but in fact would be unable to move as it would just spin the wheel just off the floor...(doesnt work if you have an LSD though I guess).

A young lady I knew ued to swivel her chevette round 90 degrees in a big-ish garage on a trolley jack leaving it with little enough room there was no way you could manoever it out- Dont see why anyone would want to steal a ropey chevette, but she was quite attached to it!

When my fiat Uno was in liverpool I used to just pull an HT lead off or the lead from coil-distributor.

There was a guy who I came acrosss who had a defender 90 Trialler, installed a big post in his garage and used to just winch it forward til' it was against the back wall- nobody could get to the front of the vehicle to undo the winch cable- he used to just detach the Winch controller very very safe!

How about just pulling a wheel off the m3 when its in the garage? Or clamping it- and chaining the clamp to the floor?

I would make sure you have your insurance all water tight , It sounds to me like they have likey noted it and know where the car is should they need it.

Criminals now are more cunning and are willing to go to extreme lenghts to get what they want.

This wont save your car but would atleast give you some satifaction . wire a live feed the petrol tank via a timer and a switch.

If they try to start it they wont try to start another one HA HA

BMW 32? :squint:[/quote]

There's a r32 bmw Motorbike, otherwise it's dropped a 0,2,3,5 or something

As for the OP, he clearly has too many cars and these guys may be trying to be helpful by creating more room on your drive/garage

light/motion sensors......leave your dog in the garage....(if its a big ulgy one)
If you don't know where you are going any road can take you there

the E30 robbers  Enthusiasts that steal!

if they had any sence and they were in an E30 wouldnt they park it a bit away and walk? They must realise that if you saw it there was a good chance you would go out and have a gander. And as a theif attracting attention to your prescence isnt usually a good idea.

ive got a sign on my 318 touring saying "this car is guarded by a shot gun 2 nights a week ........you guess which 2" i dont have the luxury of a garage where i live so a very loud alarm and a krook lock are all that comes between my car and the theives. i reckon a good anti theft device would be wireing the door handles up to the mains or putting a flame thrower under your car ...................i wanted to do this but my other half said it would be cruel ................................so what in hell does she call some little toerag deproving me of my car
