in fact the search function has turned up this as one of many. 17 pages worth should keep you amused for a while......

if your 325 sport is a good example then forget an iS

what i meant was its one of the zones age old debates that always ends in an argument and being locked down by a mod.maz1 wrote:What do you mean fuzzy. I own a 325i sport but some friends have been saying to me lately that the 318is is alsmost as quick and handles better and a lot cheaper to maintain. Was wondering if its really that good?
Thanks

But if you are feeling the pinch, ditch the 325sport and get a 318is

Totally agree with you matemikekean wrote:325 sport cause they look better. go better. and sound better. downsides is they use alot of fuel and dont handle as well as the 318's but they still handle well.
After owning a 325i sport and driving my mates 318is, I can safely say 325i sports are a much better car with better noise and more low down grunt and look alot better and also have an LSD.
Go with the 325i sport mate.
it realy anoys me when people say that. the only car that comes close to being a baby m3 is the 320is. the 318's is far inferior to even the 320is.maz1 wrote:No question about staying with the 325i sport. Just wanted to know why some people say its an alternative and people even say its a baby M3.
Even the 320iS has more in common with the 318iS and the 325i-Sport.
Only thing that links it with the M3 is a detuned engine...
An M3 is an M3 simple as...
I'm going to actually say nothing in this 4 pot 6 pot thread hoping it doesn't turn into a argument and that we might actually get something out of it

The only reason the IS corners,... appears to corner better is because of lower corner entry speeds.....mikekean wrote:325 sport cause they look better. go better. and sound better. downsides is they use alot of fuel and dont handle as well as the 318's but they still handle well.

i was going to buy a 325 sport, but it was an import so i couldn't insure it at my age.. so i looked around and got a 318is.. they're fun cars, they handle great and are fairly quick.. well fast enough for a young driver like me!
and i get around 500-580km to the tank

Both are good cars! Its just a matter of taste in the end. BUT lets leave the M3 out of this, its in a different league as the prices show.
Touring is best btw ;)

having owned all three I will say this:
M3 different league, no point really comparing, really is race car for the road, best handling E30 by a long way
325i Sport, very nice car lovely classic straight six, one of the best sounds out there, a bit nose heavy
318is, i can see why they call it the baby M3 as it is four cylinder and you have to rev the nuts off it to get anywhere just like the M3, but there the comparison ends, a bit nimbler than 325i but slower
all of them are no longer very fast but then you all know that
this is the order i would place them in and their prices reflect that, they are all good cars
as for the 320is, not owned one but have driven a couple; difficult to place IMO, more expensive than 325i Sport, cheaper than M3 but i think you would always be hankering after an M3...so I would save a grand or two and get the 325i...

and its a fact kept from the general populace and only mentioned in tight knit elite circles of e30 owners that alpine white tourings are the fastest and best of the bunch.320Touring wrote:Too fooking rightMorat wrote:

Didn't you know that if you got a standard 316 touring and painted it Alpine white it will outrun a 325i sport to 60?
Scientifically proven that is.......

Only if the brush has been blessed with a pass along the flank of a 318is.

Best thing you can do my friend is have a good drive around in the IS and after the drive you can then ask yourself
1.which one you like better
2.which one you feel you can afford easily (as petrol prices are going sky high which don’t help at all lol)
honestly the 325i will sound better all day long everyday of the week and has that extra power and for the IS you will feel its quick because its light and fairly quick for what it is and will be cheaper to maintain.
Choice is yours at the end of the day it’s yours and only yours.
All the best m8
