Cheers Guys

I have an A-frame that I have rescued many a sad turd with! Locally in the south west and I've even towed one from Dover and another from Manchester, both back to Bristol.

Never had any issue's and have been seen & overtaken by plenty of policemen....

Given that you are all A ok. over 700kg and it is downright illegal.

I thought it was 750? Im pretty sure it is supposed to be braked and for recovery only.

I doubt you'l get an e30 down to that though. We have just

I thought there was issues with 'A' frames due to the rack being in front of the control arm and the frame 'snagging' it's self - where as a towing dolly does the trick as long as it has it's own braking system for weights over 750kg

I'd say be safe, bite the bullet and rent a trailer for the day.

I've not had that issue with mine, if its chained correctly to the wishbones there is no problem.

I wasn't aware of the weight issue though.

At 21 he'll have a 750kg towing limit on his license though. Hence a guesstimate on wight of 700kg gives very little room for error too.

It's not legal, but I've done it myself. I towed a 325 touring over 100 miles using an A frame a few weeks ago. You just need to take it easy and don't brake hard, especially on a corner.
