Hello there as my nearside front wheel bearing is on the way to wearing it needs replacing, i was wondering if there are anything that would catch me out on this as nothing ever goes as well as it should for me anyway!

Also does anyone have the torque settings for the hub nut as since this is quite important i dont want to go over tightening it

Cheers for your help
Ian

Ian,

Torque setting for collar nut taken from Bentley manual is 290 Nm (210 ft. lb.)

Cheers,

Rich.

Note that an E30 front wheel bearing comes complete with the hub. Buy the best quality one from GSF/Eurocarparts.
As for the torquing; how much do you weigh (in imperial measurements)?

I have just fitted a pair of re-con front struts to the 2.7.I started with a pair of s/h 51mm front struts. It took two large Scots(320touring and Baddave) to loosen one hub nut. This may have been easier with the strut attached to the car. After building up the struts,I fitted to the car and torqued the hub nut up to my torque wrench's max(100 ft.lb)then used my biggest bar and could only move it half a flat further. The nut is held by a locking washer thingy so I do not expect any problems....think that you will find it difficult to over tighten.

To undo my OS front hub nut late last year I had an 18" Snap On power bar with a 6ft scaffold pole attached before it would crack. I also had the car in gear, hb applied and fb so as the car wouldn't move.

Halfrauds do a torque wrench that goes to 300nm for around £60. I know because I had to buy one as my original wrench was not man enough either.

Depending on where you are I could be passing your door as I drive all over the UK and may be able to assist.

Good luck.

Cheers for the response,
I know it requires a lot of effort to get the nut off the last car i had to take the hub nut off to replace a cv boot i had the car on the ground with my dad in the car with his foot ont the brake and my breaker bar was bending! I'm just glad this time i dont have a hangover as that was painful last time with a throbbing head.
