How are you doing,Josh? Carpet removal...Take front seats out.Remove both parts of the centre console,(look out for the screws cunningly hidden under the heater control area..)Pull carpet out.Be aware that the carpet tucks up behind the heater and is a swine to get out/refit.If the purpose of removal is to swap in one of a similar colour the easy option is to cut the carpet around the heater, under the forward part of the centre console, and leave this part fitted, careful measuring will mean the replacement will fit OK.Main carpet is interchangable between body types, but be aware that the small rear bit that fits just in front of the rear seats is different between body shapes... I am currently looking for a 4 door rear bit in biege... :o:

The rear seat base is curved on 4 door/tourings and square on 2 door cars. The carpet follows the same shape. There is a curved pressing on the floor of the 4 door cars.A two door carpet piece(as I have at the moment in my 4 door)is baggy at the base of the seat, just where unsuspecting passengers waft their pinkies about... winkeye as yet my 86 year old mother has not been caught out but younger, fitter passengers have... :D

You'll need to get it out past the acc pedal too - i undid the pedal from the lever and slid the carpet over since the bracket holding the pedal to the floor as a bit rotten and would never have gone back on.

Apologies as this is quite long winded!

First take out the front seats these are held in by 17mm A/F 2 nuts at the front and two bolts at the back, depending on body type you may have to unbolt the seatbelt from the seat and if they are electric or heated unplug the block connector underneath. It best if you remove the headrests before you try to lift them out, cover the sill with something like an old blanket and watch the door panel.

Next remove the rear seat swab, this just pulls up at the front out corner then slide forward.
If it’s two door there are 2 rail for the seat belts these are bolted (17mm A/F) at the front and just push into the rear seat panel.

Next the inner sill trim these are clipped into the sills but are tight. Start by getting your fingers under the front and move your finger back as far as you can as close to the clip as you can manage then pull up hard watch your hand the trim can snap and cut you if you can’t do it by hand use a big flat bladed screw driver once you have got the first 2 out just slide the trim forwards off the other and then pull out the clips and refit to the trim (you may break the clips this is unavoidable). If it four door it the same for the back trims. You don’t have to remove the ”aB”a pillar trim you can slide the carpet out from under them.

Remove the glove box: open the glove box to get the straps off twisted the end that goes onto the glove carefully until the little plastic pins pop out. Push out the torch socket then close the glove box under the glove box pulled down the carpet unit you can see the hinge then remove the 3 10mm nuts and remove the glove box.

Next remove the driver kick panel under the steering column this is held up by 3 a turd fixing across the front into the dashboard and a turn fixing into the column now gently pull down the front of the panel slide it out of the 2 mounts at it’s rear

Now unscrew the left and right speaker panels in the lower foot-wells one screw in each and pull out from under the door seals.

The centre consol is in 2 parts. The rear part is easy pull off the parking brake cover, release the front under the lever first then slide it off over the lever. Remove the rear ashtray under this is a 10mm plastic nut, remove this and slide the rear consol out backwards from the front. Now the front part remove the gear knob (if manual) put into 2nd gear and pull hard tug is probably a better word. Unclip the gator from the consol at the side first just push them in lift up the gator and cut the wirer tie. If auto pull the selector lever back to 1 undo the 3mm Allen key and lift off the tee bar. Pull off the numbers panel and remove the 2 cross head screws remove the gear selector surround push out any switches and unplug under the gear selector cover at the rear of the consol there’s another 10mm plastic nut remove this. Remove the front ashtray insert under this are 2 cross head screw remove these and remove the ashtray holder disconnecting the cigar lighter and its light at the very front left of the consol (under the dash board is a a turn fixing remove this and the consol should lift up and out. Be careful not to snap the front parts of the consol there’re very weak.

Now all that should be left is the throttle pedal (I think you say gas pedal) and it’s stop. The throttle pedal is very firmly clipped into the floor and should NOT be reused. The pedal is only plastic and is cheap to buy. To remove the pedal from the floor press the carpet down in front of it you should see the base of the pedal and the lugs that hold it push these out with a screw drive 1 from the back and 2 from the front (I think) pull it up out of the floor and remove it from its rod there a tag on the rod and a slot in the pedal. If you have problems getting out of the floor make sure you can get a new one first the cut the pedal just above the carpet and remove its base after the carpet is out. The throttle pedal stop has a 13mm locking nut at its base slacken this then unscrew the stop from the floor try and keep the nut in its original place as it save adjusting it after.

The only thing to do now is remove the carpet itself. Have a good lock around just it case I’ve mist something (it been some years since I did the last one). The only place the carpet is held now is under the heater box. There are 2 way of doing this personally I used to carefully slide it out from under the heater just take your time and make sure you don’t rip it. Or some people cut the carpet around the heater box and leave the piece under the heater there, these nothing wrong with this make sure you cut well inside the make of the front centre consol so the cuts won’t be seen when the vehicle is rebuilt. Lift out the carpet from the back and unhook it from the parking brake lever and your away.

If required cut the new carpet to the old carpet. If you slide the carpet out from under the heater use some kind of lubrication on the underside of the carpet to refit it something like silicon grease, Vaseline or petroleum jelly. Slide the carpet as far as you can under the heat box then hit the carpet in the front corners by the transmission tunnel until it goes all the way forwards.
Now rebuild in the reverse order that you stripped it.
