Just sitting in the living room setting the valve clearances (as you do.)

I get to the inlet rockers on 4, 5 & 6 (3 at the back of the engine) and they look different, the rocker isn't central on the tappet.

Is this right, it looks wrong, the rocker is up against the little circlip on the cam.

M30 3.5 head.

I'm confused 8O

I didn't build this head back up so I don't know if it's right.

the rockers are part no. 1271836 except for:

4&6 on the exhaust and 2, 3 & 6 on the inlet which are 1271836.9

any reason for this?

At a guess its either the rocker shaft is the wrong way round or you have the wrong cam :?
Measure the gap between the inlet and exhaust rockers directly above the cam, then compare it to the first three sets.
There is NO nucleus.

I've just stared at it for 15mins, the ONLY thing it can be is that the rocker shafts are in wrong, it's only the last 3 rockers on the inlet side that are out but that could be chance...

It, just can't be anything else.

The top pic is the 3rd rocker, 1 & 2 look the same

I'mnot going to be happy if they've built it arse about face...

i bet theyve mixed the rockers up. they look sided, i bet those three on the second picture down should be on the other rocker shaft and three on the other one should be on that one.

failing that, as already said........ the rocker shaft could be wrong way round????

who built it up? david blunkett??

They seemed competent..

I'll just take it back..

Why do you notice these things AFTER you've done 8 valve clearances......

It's probobly the shaft is in the wrong place or it's slipped, if you look inside the cylinder bolt head holes you will see little cut outs in the shafts that should sit right in the holes, these can be stopped from slipping with a cylinder head bolt per shaft.

If you have to take the metal plate off the back of the head to tap the shaft in make sure you find the one bolt with the sealing washer on it and mark the plate so you know which hole it's supposed to go back in.

Ive got an m30 sat in my lock up, ill whip the rocker cover off and take a couple of pics after i finish work, the camshaft looks ok , if you have the rocker on top of the valve it will be central on the cam . :?
