Today I finally got around to finishing my touring's headlining. On the whole I'm pretty pleased with the way it turned out, there're a few wrinkles here and there but nothing too obvious. I just hope the glue withstands the summer heat.

Starch it too before you put it back. the starch keeps it stiff hich in turn stops it stressing the join on the glue

Looks good from here, one of the jobs on my todo list as I've currently got the CSL look
March will the starch affect the nap & could you still brush it after it is starched?

Cheers Dips, and thanks for the advice. Like I said, I'm not convinced it's going to hold, so if it comes down I'll try it with a lighter, thinner material.

Nice job. I bet that will be fine, the heavier material notwithstanding.
I may do that to mine when it sags back down again. Thanks for the inspiration.

does the headlining mount to some sort of board that attaches to the roof, thats what it looks like from the picture or is it like the ones with the thin metal strips going across the roof?

The original set up is a rigid fibreglass board, then a foam layer and then the outer material.

Mine stuck, but I rushed mine and faffed about, and it needs to be re stuck or hair dyed back up.
Not a difficult job, just fiddly.

On this topic. how easy does the roof lining come out of a touring. ? do you have to remove the rear glass??
any help would be appreciated.

No glass removal necessary! Remove grab handles, check control, sun visors, interior lights etc. Pull the rubber door seals down. There are four clips at the rear, one either side of the tailgate hinges. Once these are released it's just a case of giving the headlining a tug backwards to free it from the four points holding it up in the middle. All will become clear once it's out!

Out of interest, what are the extra holes in your headlining for?
