Anyone here done these in-situ without the £250 tool?

Got a mate locally who's a bit of a BMW specialist, he says to burn them out and attack the remains with an air chisel, just wondering if anyone else has tried this.

I've got a set of both standard and Powerflex bushes here, the Powerflex bushes have a sort of wee 'seat' thing around top, which seems extra :?

Not looking forward to the job, but it's the only job left for my mate's 325i Sport, which has been sitting around my garage since about June.

Burning them out isn't the best idea while they're on the car, the fuel lines aren't far away...

also, it would be very easy to burn all the body sealer off the brake lines and serving them on a plate for rust to attack!

you're all wimps - burned them out earlier, and I have to say it was much much easier than I expected.

The fuel lines are miles away from it, and the brake pipe's only near it on the passenger side too.

I did set fire to the corner of the sideskirt once or twice though!

I expected Moses to appear once I'd finished...

Bloody nutcase! Those flames are lapping around the rubber part of the fuel filler, and around where many E30s have pinhole rust holes in the fuel tank!!!
You'll regret putting that plastic rubbish in as well.

Fuel tank's solid, nearly empty and the rubber filler neck is miles from the flames - see the second rib in the bottom of the tank? it's above there.

Not my car - he wanted the Powerflex bushes in it, and they're easier to fit, so I'm all for it :P

Yes, your fuel tank is solid. Proved by the fact that you can still post on here!

Good move on fitting the powerflex bushes. Would never go back to normal subframe bushes now :D

I have Powerflex bushes on my M3, but stuck with rubber ones on my 325 (replaced both in the past 2 yrs)...

The Powerflex ones are MUCH easier to fit and (allegedly) remove, too...They do, though, transmit every last pothole, ridge and change of surface to the chassis...
IMHO, this is great for a track car...or at least one not used everyday on the public roads...
It isn't so great on a road car...For me, I prefer a little bit of comfort when I drive (and a bit less noise, too)...

it's on it's baws with 17 inch alloys. Comfort isn't exactly his top requirement. If he wants comfort, he can take his Rover to work.
