Recently read the thread about which rims to choose for a touring and I'm considering getting a set of the BK Alpina reps for my E30 but sounded like they might not be such a good option in terms of quality etc

Would I be making a bad choice considering I live in pot hole Bristol? :?

there a bit of a hit or a miss.

i've had two sets . first set on my old sport were abasolutely fine.

second set on my old touring had all the traits of a bad set ( WOBBLED LIKE A GOODUN AFTER 80MPH)

spigot rings made no difference

ive only had 2 sets of alpina reps but ive never had any of the quality problems often mentioned, never buckled or broke or vibrated. and a 17" bk rep with a 205x40 tyre only weighs 2.5kg more than a standard 15" bbs with tyre so they arent much heavier as often claimed.ive not experienced any negative effects to the handling either such as excessive tramlining or uncomfier ride. it is that little bit bumpier but not overly so

I've always doubted they're as bad as people make out but 2.5k is quite a bit of an increase in unsprung mass.....

Mine were horrible to drive on. And I will never put those rancid things on my e30 ever again! There are many other people that have had problems with them aswell. If you cruise around slowly they'll probably be fine but if you like to drive hard sometimes they will cause you grief.

Why take the risk that they will make your e30 drive like poo? They dont even look good imo

There are diffrent ones out there, some have multi fitment and there are the ones that only fit e30's.

BK alpina reps are always multi-fitment.

I've had mine for 6 months now and have no trouble with them, regular hard driving and heavy loads haven't phased them. I had about 500kg of engine parts in the boot yesterday for 30 miles on the motorway at 80+ no probs.

I weighed my BK's with new tyres (toyo proxes 4's 215/40/17) and they were 1.5kg heavier than my old BBS 15's. Not bad for a 17".

Cheers,

Iain T

Hmmm, its weird. Someone i know put alpina 17" reps on his E39 and to me it feels horrible in comparison to mine. Feels like its swaying about etc. Not good.

I never had any problems with BKs on my old Tech1.
I did a session on Castle Combe in 2006 with these and no problems at all but i must say when i switched to 7.5X16 Azevs with new toyo rubber there was a massive improvement.

If you can go for 16" rims you wont go far wrong

They're not BK's.

Burger Kings have a flat outer lip, yours are rounded.

BK 171's only come in 2 versions 5 x 120 for 5 stud cars and 4 x 100/ 4 x 108 multi fitment.

Cheers,

A german firm made these too much better quality than the BK ones.

But they are still horrid sh!te imitations. E30's drive like turds on 17's

i have 17" Alpina Reps, they are made for the e30, 4x100 et20. Made by a company here in SA http://www.waw.co.za/ , they are good, but i have buckled two of them, when i hit a brick the size of a small country!! but besides that incident, they have been good to me.

Ive had BBS 15", Borbet 16" and now BK's 17" and I have had no problems what so ever. Ride quality is the only sacrifice Ive found with the 17"s, but you can get tyres very cheaply these days for 17"s, and they look great imo winkeye (Oakey)

None taken, only having a laugh. I met you at the last westerham meet, mine was the C2 2.7 parked next to yours. I'd have parked it in Oxted if I had known my wheels would offend
