Headlight & Wiper Restoration (Trying anyway)

Started this in technical help. Realised not the right place so copied it to here!

Here I have taken out the wiper motor. There was slight corrosion at the shaft that meets the brass shaft casing that goes into the motor.

Image

I stripped out the parts and found the whole inside near perfect. The shaft had to come to get rid of any dirt inside it and to re-lubricate it again. Very fiddly to open this wiper motor.

I am currently assembling it and painting the support bracket and bolts so they look better on the headlights! This is only one side so far. While the headlight is out I will be washing the car in that area with very hot soapy water and a good cloth!

Richard

The main beam had a cracked lense so I removed and acleaned the edge ready to receive paint for rust protection and a new lense!

Here I have put in long life grease and reassembled the wiper motor. Clean the lights housings and touch up where rust is seen. The lights were pure black so had to degrease them.

The halo lense covers are not bad but needed repainting! So this morning I did this!

I decided to do the 4 of them as I want to paint them this morning in one go!

Well over the weekend I had fixed the cracked headlight, refurbished one headlight wiper and painted the rings silver at first, then I decided I was not happy with them! So I painted them black gloss finish!

The other wiper is completely seized and I bent the shaft trying to unfreeze it. So will be on the hunt for another one!

And while was in the mood I put in the missing wiper nozzles! So the fluid was not escaping out the bottle anymore! Fixed the switch to the foglamps! So all the check lights are now out!

I also replaced the wing mirror glass!

JKC BMW. They are still available! I tried autodoc but they kept sending me the wrong type. Mine has the white plastic that locks the mirror in. Autodoc kept sending me the click in place ones which do not work on my mirrors! BMW just need your chassis nr as a refernce to get the correct mirrors. Unless your mirrors are not the original type! I have purhcased a replacement headlight wiper. (refurbished one) That's me up to date so far!

How did you get the lens off? Mine aren’t cracked, but very milky on the inside, so I want to clean them.

Thanks

Low bake in the oven or heat gun softens the adhesive, but for the milkiness thing on the inside of the glass has easier, less risky solutions, like swilling dry rice around inside.
