Providing it does not prove an unforeseen nightmare to route, Joe is happy to do the same group buy price on the BTB3 as he is on the BTB2. The only stipulation is that he needs to make minimum 5 of the exact same manifold. So 5 BTB2s is fine, 5 BTB3s is fine, but not 2 and 3 etc.

Plan is for the BTB3 to fit stock and modified rack cars, so everyone gets what they need with the BTB3.

Martin.

Well theres enough interest floating around here and probably plenty of interest from people who dont know that it exists yet.

If the rack works with both modified and unmodified racks, then no-one should need a BTB2 anymore? Unless the performance gains etc have a minor drop. But tbh, it would be so negligable if any that no-one apart from the odd one or two people who deem it necessary.

So no price as such yet?

Agree that the BTB3 should make the BTB2 redundant. Prices were at the bottom of the first page,

I think a locking of this thread will be needed soonish (once its definate). Danny can set up a thread in the technical section or p.m. me or dave (i'm sure he wont mind :D) with questions and I'll see what I can do to help.

Then set up a new group buy thread soon for definate "BTB3" manifolds.

Martin, did you find out a rough price for the BTB3 with say, 5 or 10 of us all in?
Yep, any problems just give me a shout.

so all in, they'll be just shy of 600 for a manifold with good gains and fit any rack you like :D
If this all works out there'll be another one less reason why I shouldn't go buy a Sport!!!

Excellent news. Do give Joe a call first to sort logistics, his contact details are a few posts earlier in the thread.

As an aside, is there a straightforward way to establish what rack is in my car? I had assumed it was OEM E30, but it is very direct and does not seem many turns lock to lock. It also only had a couple of mm clearance to BTB's M30 6 branch. If it is OEM E30, I cannot understand why people would change it.

Martin.

Count how many turns it takes from lock to lock.
If it's 4 it's a E30 rack.

If its around 3, it's an E36/46 or Z3 rack

Right i have fitted what i think is a e46 pas rack to my car today
i think its an e46 rack as i was told that if it was a e36 rack i would be able to use the original steering joint but would have to use the rear holes in the sub frame
but i had to use the front holes in the sub frame and had to do away with the rubber coupling so now the joint is just bolted together and i have about 5mm clearance between the lower coupling joint and the down pipe
also i had to put the spacers on top of the rack
so what I'm hoping is the way i have fitted it all together is going to be OK for every one wanting a btb3 to me its the simplest way i found to do it so should be easy enough for every one to replicate
please any questions or comments or ideas let me now because this is going to be at btb next week
many thanks danny

Sorry, I didn't reply earlier... was busy at a drift event

Yep, that's an E46 rack alright.

That will work fine, little bit of bump-steer from mounting the spacers above the rack alright but it's barely noticeable.

I have my E46 rack mounted the same way in the iS and it's perfect.

When fitting the 6 branch to please everybody, you could possibly pull the bolts from the UJ and just move the rack between front and rear holes, spacer underneath and overheadd to get measurements with the column in it's different locations

when i tried to use the rear holes the joint fowled the down pipe and with an e46 rack you cant put the spacers underneath as there's no room between the sump and the rack
ill ask if btb can factor in a bit more space around the uj where the down pipe is now so the rack can sit further back
i think that should make the manifold work with all different variations

I'm a wee bit skint this month now, due to a bloody accident in my 5er. Hopefully at the end of the month I shall be prepared. I have a piggybank containing a good sum of money (hopefully ) and upon payday nearer the end of the month I should be ok.... I'll also try hold off some pennies from this month too!

Example prices for the M20 325i manifold and downpipes are £478.26 + VAT. That is a very handy 36% off, and that applies to both the 2 into 1 or the 2 into 2 with X-pipe.

Joe is keen on the idea of the M20 with Z3/e36 rack option too, but he needs to see a car first plus he'd need 5 to get those prices.
Martin.
Just noting my interest, in the BTB3 M20 for quick racks.

£478.26 + VAT = £550 sounds good. . .
What are the advantages of 2 into 1, or 2 into 2 with x-pipe, am I missing something here? Will these mate to the standard system or do they require all new backwards to? If so, do BTB reccommend a full system?

Is the group buy getting towards a list for these manifolds??

I would of thought so but ill ask when i drop it off. it would make sense to build it so it will fit all applications.

That was the plan, but if its one or the other then may as well be for quick racks. Then have a BTB2 for normal racks and BTB3 for rack upgrades. But one for all applications is the intended product.

Well done Dano0. And in good time, two days before payday :D:D

Hmmmmm, this had got me thinking now. I've already got a BTB2 but i would love to fit a z3 rack as it was so nice to drive when i had one of the iS.

kieran325 - I believe Dano0 has his car booked in for 28th august. Within a week from then, we'll know the news. Also, a lot.... hoping (praying) its under £550.

BTW guys... not incredibly clued up in exhausts, but if I get this "btb3" manifold, would a scorpion center section and backbox (for example) be all I need to have a complete exhaust? Basically, is does the btb manifold fit with oem (or aftermarket) parts, or do you have to have a 2 into 1 pipe or btb's center section etc?

I've not really thought about this yet.

BTW, once we have some conformation from Dano0, should we set up a new thread for people who actually want this now?

answers to some of the questions
Q1 price minimum 5 orders £478.26+vat no more discount for 10 or more orders the price is what it is .
witch i think is fair
Q2 will it fit standard racks this is the plan and the brief i gave Jo but it all depends on space and the routing of the primaries and collectors we will find out soon
Q3 will it fit standard systems Jo has told me yes it will so no worries there
Q4 performance increases there should be no loss of performance increases to the old manifold so about 10 -15 bhp gain i think

Ive told Jo he can have the car for 2 weeks if needed but he said it might only take a week so ill keep every one updated

i must say i cant wait I'm like a kid waiting for christmas :D :D :D
