Started years ago, when I join "e30zone" .
Finally made progress, thought I'd share.

Bought a 325i se 2 door in dolphin grey, stood for years, rotten.
Welded shell up, new wings & quarters, swoped roof skin.
Cage in, diff rebuilt with lsd.
E46 rack, with custom hydraulic lines.
Ap suspension kit.
Fully polybushed, whole car.
Calipers rebuilt and powder coated, new lines ECT.
List goes on.

Engine is stripped for rebuild into 2.8.
Shtick 288 cam.
6 branch ECT.

Loads done, still loads to do.

BMW track day sounds good, oulton pk being my local track.

Original m20b25, 2.7 eta crank, 2litre rods, standard pistons.
Schrick 288 cam, big bore throttle body, 6 branch tubular manifold, m3 exhaust.
Everything was lightened and balanced, pistons crank ect.

Not run her in yet, but it sounds broken on tick over, when you rev it lights up like a bike engine!

Feals like a power band on a 2 stroke, great fun 2 drive.

sounds like a good spec,

as for the sound at tickover, mine sounds like a v8 with the schrick cam & X pipe lol but start to open it up & the sound

After 20/30 mile thrust bearing is making a racket.
It's new, so must be faulty! Brilliant!
Luk clutch kit as well.

Anyway, any thoughts on front brake conversion?

Not now, but I'm looking at either the 7series brembos or willwood dinilites.

BMW brembos are cheaper, more messing.
Willwood lighter, bespoke kit no messing.

Any advice?

well i use hi-spec billet 4 calipers, 4 x 41mm pistons, with ds3000 pads, vw g60 282mm discs & braided lines though out.

had this set up for over 10yrs but aint got a clue what price they are now,

I fitted a new LUK release bearing to an S50 conversion last year and that is also now screaming..
When looking at brake kits look at the disc rather than the caliper, I have built a oem style single piston caliper setup that stops better than the 4 pot kit it replaced

Head gasket is now leaking oil.

Small puddle, 1" or so after a drive.

Proper upsetting ☹, head off now!

Any recommendations for head gasket?
Cant remember wot brand I used last time.

What caliper brackets did you use and did you use a 2mm spacer between the hub and the disc?

I had the brackets made.
Downloaded the diagram gave to my engineer pal, made them out of alloy.
Pretty much a straight bar, allmost.

No 2mm spacer behind disc, had the centre bore opened up a smidge.

7mm spacer to allow wheel to spin.

Easy

Yes.
That's the 1.

I run a flap disc over the caliper face to remove the mazda logo.
Bit of blue enamel paint, look spot on.

Have you got the mazda calipers?
I've got a spare pair sumwhere.

Getting the same one made too. I have a bracket that is just straight without the recessed bit but it meant a few washers here and there and is a pain. Also have the mazda ground off painted them red and added a brembo decal. I need to get stud conversion as putting the wheel on and off is a mare with bolts.

Studs are loads easier, especially with a spacer ect.

How your find em?

Cant be any worse than standard, allmost dangerous with standard calipers.

The 2mm spacer was required for the Wilwoods kit I have. The disc didn't sit in the middle of the caliper without it. I had some replacement brackets drawn up for my Wilwoods but the prices I got back to manufacture them made it a bit daft to spend the money on them. The standard ones are 'alright' but one day I'll swap them.

To be fair to standard callipers, the Production BMW lot race using them.

These brakes look really good though :D

I haven't driven it yet . I have had standard 325i calipers on all my other e30's including a m52b28 and m30b35 and found they were fine ,i am sure these will be better than oem .

I found the standard brakes to be poor.
Mayb it was the pad choice?
I rebuilt them as well, new everything.

Had to use a lot of force to slow car down.
My car is a lot quicker than standard, dunno.

Had no confidence in the standard brakes, and you need to trust your brakes.

Not had chance to use the new set up yet, had lots to do.

Ah that would be great thanks. Yes I have the drawing and the .Dxf files for them somewhere.

Any ideas on how to adjust variable cam ?

I've never had anything but problems with my fuel level sensors in all of my cars. Out of interest have you ever run it without that duck tail? It will be creating quite a bit of drag I'd have thought?

You get out much in this car? Should give us a shout if you ever come to Silverstone.

Owned car for 5 years.

Probably done 50mile, ha ha!

Been a very drawn out build!

Got it running loads better, adjusted cam, adjusted co.
Sounds very angry.
Snowing at the moment, so no test drive.
