Here we go again :D

Right peeps, I now have a complete M50 non vanos spare engine,
albeit in bits, but it's mostly there,
the only thing missing is......................

some forged rods and some shiny pistons :D
which is where I need some info,

what length rods? and what pistons to go for?

I'm going to be using the M50 crank, simply because I have one,
and gasket wise, I think I might go down the "cut ring gasket" route
rather than the MLS

So at the moment I have a totally stripped M50 block thats ready for honing, blasting and painting etc

A fully rebuilt head, lapped in valves, stem seals, fresh skim, pressure tested etc

and I've already got my eye on a turbo capable of 800 BHP 8O that is almost identical (dimension/fitment wise) to the one I have now,
so it would slot right into place on the manifold and the downpipe whoop

I was looking at these
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/141012697669? ... EBIDX%3AIT

simply because it's a cracking deal,
but i think i need 135mm rods if i'm using the M50 crank..?

Or should I just be happy with what I have now :(

135mm rods are needed. I rate Wiseco pistons as I have used 10+ on 2 strokes and the quality is always spot on. They do some good off the shelf options for boosted m50's too.

For the money, Eagle rods seem good. Most of the forged rods come out of one factory in China apparently and the different brands just have different levels of QC. If you are feeling flush, Pauter rods are meant to be exceptionally good

What is your setup at the moment? All depends on what comp ratio your aiming for

I do happen to have some nice 140mm cracked rods for sale which are ideal for a 2.5 crank :D

Roger that,

I've just found some nice 135mm rods but need to work out what piston crowns i would need, I think i am going down the cut ring gasket, the cometic just seem too troublesome.
so looking at a comp of around 8.5:1 ish

PM me if you need anything, I looked into it a lot a year or so back. The low comp Wiseco slugs come in at 8.8:1 CR and there are 3 off the shelf options for an m50 (1 standard bore, 2 over bore sizes).

Not thought about going for an m54 crank while you are at it? The displacement will help a bit power wise and massively with turbo spool for a 800hp turbo

Quality, I might just do that mate :)

I suppose if i use the 8.8:1 wiesco crowns,
I could just use a thin copper spacer under the ring cut gasket just to bring the comp down a little..

The turbo i'm looking at is rated at 800, but.. i'm not going to be pushing it to it's limits like I am now with the set up I have
I'll just have it at around 700 ish :P
Would rather have everything "uprated"....again, but not run them as hard
if that makes sense
