Car Audio Buffs

This should be a quick one.

Buying car audio from North America is normally a no, different frequencies etc.

Is there anyway to get radio receivers from North America to work in the UK? Easily I should add, also the head unit in question is from the late 70's.

Should be possible to tweak the local oscillator frequency to change the tuning range, and possibly be able to tweak up the other tuned circuits to the new frequency as well, but you'd need the service manual/wiring diagram for the equipment to know what and how.

So it's not easy basically. :(

Thanks Brian.

Tweaking the LO frequency should be reasonably easy (you can identify the adjustment for that by moving a metal object, such as a screwdriver, near the circuitry with it switched on and working.) The tuning will shift a bit when you go near it.
Unfortunately, moving the LO only, without changing the tuning of other circuits in the input side of things will greatly reduce the sensitivity of the radio, leaving it only able to receive strong signal stations.

8O

The head unit is quite pricey, so I might not try that.

Interesting information tho! 8)
