e46 325i cabriolet deadlocked / battery flat how to open?

Jack up the front left corner, and reach up with the + terminal of a battery charger or a wire from a battery, and clip it onto the outer terminal of the starter motor. Connect the negative wire to unpainted metalwork such as the engine mount arm.
