Climate control unit turns off/on by itself.

As title,my 1998 e36 328i climate control randomly turns off and on,but the green switch buttons are left illuminated even when it turns off.
Am i looking at a replacement unit to cure the fault?
I have heard the resisters go on these as well? Do they just control the fan?
Advice appreciated.

sounds like the climate unit itself, but saying that the heater fan resistor or hedghog going can cause funny things to happen also but not turning the unit on and off i don't think.

Looks like im going to be looking for a good replacement,if anyone has one??????(preferably with all the pixels working)

a common fault on the e36 for this to happen,serch on the web and you will find out how to repair without paying for a replacement unit,or look on e bay theres a bloke who can repair it for you.

Forgot about this thread.....cheers for the info fella. I did indeed use the repair guy. Unit has been in car working nicely since.
All is well again with the 36.
