Hi Guys

Bothers mk2 golf was taken to garage to get head gasket done, while it was there he was told that cap and rotor arm had to be changed among other things. The car run brilliantly for a bit. Then all of a sudden the car started misfiring on acceleration. Checked the cap and rotor arm and the rotor arm metal bit was bent outwards, so replaced it with a new one, yet the same problem.

Now will the cap be damaged that quickly, its a few weeks old and the center coil looks pretty black already. Has this failed ?

I think I am making some kind of progress on a misfiring on a 1.3 weber carbed mk2, I noticed when starting the car there was sparks coming from one of the leads and the spark was firing on to one of the other cables( not ht, but a thick glossy one that goes to the cabin) then once i turned car off checked the rotor arm( which was new) and the metal contact was all bent up. The leads are new as well, would they be damaged that quick? what would you do now ...new leads, cap and rotor arm?

Have you checked the earth strap between the engine/gearbox and body? I'd start there, personally as it's something often left off or perished meaning the engine electrics are earthing through the engine mounts and giving all manner of trouble. A jump lead from battery negative to a good clean bit of metal on the engine will help troubleshooting if that's the issue.

Aside from that, are you sure all HT leads are correctly located for the firing order and the dizzy rotates the way you expect it to? I can't remember on the 1.3 if it's driven mechanically from the crank or on the end of the cam but the same applies. You may be better googling Polo issues with that engine as it's rarely fitted in a Golf but often in Polos.
