The LHD carpet is a sure sign that it is one of the mythical Ledbury Maestros, so Everett tells me

I saw a mint (and fully peado'ed) brown 1.3 HLE Metro yesterday complete with brown tints, Unipart flaps and British Leyland lock protectors. ?Surpisingly? the owner was a young hipster type who looked as pleased as punch about the whole scenario

Neither. It's Clove brown.
Russet brown was up to 1980 on Austin Morris stuff, Mexico brown was Rovers and Triumphs.
I used to buy those shitheaps from the auctions, fit a pair of pattern wings (they were rotten at 5-6 years old) and out them for a tidy profit. Like the saddo I am I used to prime and underseal the backs of the wings as well. And I did an A plate 1.3L just like that one and made my customary 500 quid - not bad for a weeks wages 25 years ago.
