gotta replace the inner CV boot on the miss's Corsa......

Anyone got any tips on splitting the joint ?
Is it just a case of pulling the joint apart ?

Make sure you get the right gaitor as its shaped to the joint.

You have to knock the outer cv joint off as the bearings are pressed on the inner end. There is a circlip holding the outer cv joint which is usually a bastard to do spread and then knock the joint off at the same time.

Fook.....I was hoping I could just undo the bottom ball joint on the strut and pull the inner CV joint apart...the inner one is just held in place with spring clips. I know the outer one can be arkward and did not really want to split it just to change the inner boot.

I'm fairly certain you have to, as the inner joint has the bearings pressed onto the shaft and you can't get the gaittor over. So Knock the outer joint off to slide the new on one. Much easier job in the vice anyway.

the inner tripod assembly is retained by two spring clips on a splined shaft, no pressed bearing. That's why I was hoping I could just pull the tripod out of the "Cup".

Might be another car I'm thinking of.

If I was doing the job, I'd take the shaft off and put it in the vice.
