Considering one of these to replace the M5. Are they just bonkers money pits or not really much worse than an M5? Had a look at one this week and my heart is trying to overrule the head - please talk me down!

No, but like the m5 it would only do about 4k a year so petrol and major wear and tear would be minimal. Just want to own one for a year or two then move it on. If I bought fully serviced with new clutch, how much can go wrong??

Did a bit more research last night and found a specialist not far away that would remove the full sting of dealership servicing. Two services, a set of tyres, a battery and brakes over 2 years wouldn't be much more than I'm forking out for M5. It's the unknown extras that put me off.
Anyway not doing anything until I move m5 on first. Might just end up keeping it anyway as can't think of an acceptable replacement..

Well the M5 just sold for full asking price after only being advertised for 4 days. Had others wanting to view tomorrow. Never had so much interest in a car and the CAT C made little difference!
Now the fun begins....

Best to get the proper ZF auto. That DeoSelect gearbox is horrible. They are much cooler then M5s.

Sadly the Mas sold this morning. Probably saved me from myself. A Jag XK or a nice 8 series are maybe more practical on the wallet - plenty under 10k. Always fancied a Capri as well.

Going to look at some Jags tomorrow. If any things going to fill the M5 sized hole in my life it will need lashings of wood and leather.

Do extensive research first on the jags, was only chatting to a friend yesterday about them, I questioned why he chose an XJS over the XK and he relayed a suprising amount of horror stories with the later. He bought a B reg XJS V12HE in the end. In his opinion, the far better choice.

I've already owned a beautiful (in my eyes) Le Mans edition XJS. Loved the V12, the leather and the wood but don't feel the need to own another. Just can't get past the fact that E60 doesn't do it for me aesthetically. I'm going for a later (03-05) XK with the 4.2 which ironed out most of the earlier faults. Will only do 3k or so a year so mpg is not really a big concern.
Also just realised XK was a Bond baddies car, so that's another tick in the bucket list

Checked a few cars out today and have put deposit down on a Black 2005 4.2s with black leather/carbon fibre interior. One of the last run out editions of the old model.
I know in many ways she won't match the E39 M5 but she's absolutely stunning in the flesh. Still has a tape deck mind you...

How many exhausts

?
Year

?

It was registered Dec 2005. I'm sure it was a twin exhaust. I think it's the XKR that had a quad exhaust for the last few models.
The 4.2 engine doesn't have the issues of the earlier 4.0.

That's lovely. I did consider an XKR but costs to buy and maintain are even higher.
