Hi All, I had my timing belt replaced today at a cost of £240. Does this price seem right? or is it too high?
I was told that there are two belts that need replacing on a mk4 golf petrol engine 1.6 2003.

Any thoughts/advice on this will be greatly received :)

If it has been done PROPERLY with tensioner and waterpump replaced, that sounds reasonable.

Hello, Thanks for the reply..... There was no mention of a new tensioner and water pump? I'm sure they would have told me if they had? who knows!

Ask for a breakdown of parts/time

That doesnt sound too bad if its just the belt & tensioners and they have used quality bits.

I wouldnt expect a £240 cambelt change done by a garage to include changing the waterpump though pete.

We all know what the bits are likely to cost but a £50+ p/h labour rate is most of your bill.

As a guide, the last cambelt I did was on a vauxhall astra I charged £250.

That included cambelt kit, water pump, anti freeze, auxilary belt and labour.
