..thinking about getting one of these for the missus. There seems to be a good supply of cheap unmolested ones out there run by gravel drive ex military types + I’ve always had a thing for MB interiors :wan: Are these a good proposition though or best avoided? :?

Avouid anything carb fed. they're just Meh!

Auto beats manual (in my opinion)

buy a cosworth and enjoy?

Also, I have the number of a good therapist, should you feel the need to inhibit your "desire for 80's wrongness"

they all got a wood gearshift surround then in 92' they got it all over the dash too :D

I am a big fan of the 190E had loads,
forget Manuals merc could never build a decent box.. for me it would be an auto straight 6, 2.6
the 1.8 is underpowered the 2.0 although quite lively loves a headgasket and the diesel is like a dumper truck, the cozzies 2.3 and 2.5 are overated a decent sportline will dust the pair and is a great driving car

good things to check.. Rot in the wings/sills heater fan works (it's a really shit job to do) they all fail ! soggy doorcards and failed electric windows

Wow.. Cant see how a nice 2.6 will dust a nicely sorted 2.3,2.5-16.....

A manual Cossie that is not tired and soldiering on whilst running like a pig with starting issues (like most :( ) , one that has had all the valve clearances done, all the injectors replaced (as they are actually servicable parts that people overlook and never replace) etc etc, in the right hands is a competant weapon and is likely to be much more rewarding as a 'great driving car' than the 2.6....

The 2.6's are great cars in their own right, and in rare manual and sportline form must be really fun.... but they are more cruisers compared to the 16v'ers..... Its bit like comparing a E30 325i to a E30 M3.....

But agreed W201's are awesome cars...

..gotta love a 90s German with chequed cloth :) The other half is still talking about hatchbacks. I'm hoping the path of true teutonic rightness and double handbrake cable overengineered excellence will win the day (hopefully a promise to cover maintenance costs will seal the deal)

I bought my mate a 190E a couple of years ago because he wanted a classic car. Cost £500 for an almost mint K plate LE model (Last of line) Apart from a broken ball joint, he's only serviced it since then. Loves the bloody thing!!
They are nice to drive, but don't buy a manual-auto or nothing with MBs. 8)

had a lot of talks with aze30 (on here), about the cossies, hes got one

i been thinking a lot about the 2.3 cosworth for a daily driver

so would you get an auto over manual ? , a 2.3 champagne gold manual i been thinking id have, the 2.3 engine was done by cosworth themselves, but the 2.5s were "copied"by mercedes and not actualy done by cosworth themselves, from what i understand

plus i have a 325i aswell so a a 2.3 would make that seem better still, and be slightly less juicy

always loved the look of 190e`s

..go for it :D The missus is not going for the 190E plan, plan B is to try and find an unmolested compact, could be a long search :(

Look for the metallic yellow one on ebay - a low mileage X reg one with light tan leather and electric full length sunroof. It's pretty special.

clocked that one, looks gorgeous, her ladyship wants an auto, hopefully can be talked around though.. From an afternoon of googling looks like you can get a decent one for £750-£1000, lots of bruv spec ones in that price range too though :(

...bought this one :) Seems to be fairly altogether, Burton Deakin supplied, 60,000 miles FSH, yuppie first owner in canary wharf by the look of things, anthracite cloth, parking sensors, bit grubby inside, electric mirrors, BMW alarm, dicky passenger electric window, 'untested' air-con, few parking dings. Picking it up on Sunday, looking forward to your and Pete's verdict! Hope you can fit it in for some fettling :)

Yep, bring it up as soon as you like. Got some good used regulators here and a guy who does Stratstone BMW's dents can rub the dings out.

Looks level enough though.
