Hammer or not, a 300e is a delight to own and drive, very underated and for the money its a lot of bang for buck
I love the 124's far better than the rusty nail Merc replaced it with !!
good luck in your search

no it doesnt have the recaros sadly but the 300ce is still an awesome car...i remember when my old boy had a 300e in saloon...was a lovely motor and the power was nice too, obviously not supercar power but still quick enough for what it is
i agree with topless here the 124's are seriously under rated having had two in he family i know what they are like

If you want an 300ce, hold out for a 300ce-24V..... The 24v donk is a alot more potent than the 12V lump and alot more charismatic......

Fixed !
A standard 300ce is a great car. £1500 will buy a nice one which is a hell of a car for no money. Alas all the later facelift cars suffer from wiring loom / ECU dramas , chocolate 5 speed auto boxes and poorer rust prevention. The pick of the crop is the '89-'92 300 ce 12 valve.

Pete, what do the 24V ones suffer from?

The main issues are porous head castings and dead ECUs and I have never seen one without a head gasket oil leak.
