..just reading the latest issue of Classic Cars in Asda It has a super-barge test comparing these three fine chariots... Having seen a quattroporte III in the flesh the other day, it runs the 412 surprisingly close in terms of desirability

Yes pete.

All fantastic looking cars. That 130 coupe fiat was stunning also, as was the lancia gamma coupe. I love all the straight line styling of the Italian cars in the late 70's and early 80's, something which eluded the german cars of the same period.

I love the Gamma coupe, alas it was sadly lacking in the engine department, even before the timing

Peugeot 604s are another grear looking car from that era.

Classic Cars is getting better and better, whilst Classic and Sportscar is becoming more aloof and a name dropping wankfest - only Buckley's stuff is worth reading. It's turned into a kind of coffee table club magazine for Pringle wearing multi millionaires - I don't want to read about Mick Walsh going to America to drive a 1943 Steadfast Strumley straight 16 drophead dickey seat open top tourer that's worth 8 billion quid and belongs to a reclusive car collector. I want to read about stuff that you can actually see at car shows, and buy for a reasonable amount of money. Proper hero chariots like the above, XJ Coupes, 928S Porsches and other stuff that was once megabucks car porn but is now £6000 worth on a good day.

The Gamma Coupe was the last real Lancia, and they can be made reliable. Apart from the power steering belt drama (which can be eliminated), the 2.5 flat four is not fatally flawed like the Stag V8 was. Best of all, they're worth next to fuck all.

As for the three chariots above - all worthy, but I've seen you and raise you a Rolls Royce Camargue. A mint one for the price of a decent spec 1 Series.

I've got a prescription to classic cars and think its got a load better over the last 12 months, much better than most!

I do have a soft spot for retro cars too!!

Used to get practical classics but that appears to be for peados and classic and sportscar is just for c*nts now!!

not many Fiats can be classed as a hero chariot,

especially the Deuce cammed 2.0 croma IE with Blue leatherzz and severe wiring issues that i left to rot in a pub carpark years ago

I subscribe to Practical Classics but am getting very p1$$ed off at the amount of it thats just adverts - the editorial content is quite good but a huge proportion of the mag is ads

I have started to prefer Car Mechanics lately

The fiat croma was garbage, and was part of that 'group 4' or 'euro 4' program along with the saab, lancia and alfa.

Fiat 130 does sound great.

Yep, the German classic mags are good, both that one and Oldtimer Markt.
Retro Cars was good when it was A&S Publishing and Future Publishing. It's just a bit trendy yoof now.
