Couldn't you have bought a nice looking car for that price ?
I would love to see Subarus sales figures since that minger was released, I reckon they must have gone off a cliff. You see very few 'new' ones compared to the previous generations when they were current.
Obviously the new car market has changed dramatically in the last ten years as the diesel steamroller has taken over but being pug ugly cannot help.

I looked after a bug eyed WRX from brand new back in 2001 until 2010. With the exception of service parts /tyres/brakes/ cambelt etc , the only thing that went wrong was the CD player and a couple of alarm batteries.
If the victim had bought a new 'quality' German turd at the time , it would have cost a shed load more and the list of ailments over that period would have probably run to several pages.
It got my respect ,even if the 20 mpg and road noise were rather tiresome .

I know it doesn't come across in the photos but this car is stunning, but I also agree that it could be called purposely ugly like the 1M.

The 1M is far from Ugly.
The Subaru above on the other hand looks like the old TG reasonably priced car (Suzuki Leana?) with a nasty body kit.

I thought it was universally accepted that the 1M is purposely fugly? Perhaps you gloss over that part of the reviews?
Don't get me wrong though, because I quite like it, if it wasn't going to cost me so much on my P11D i would have gone and looked at one.

I thought they were 2.5's now?
Scoobynet has a lot of useful info on the current range.
Have you driven it yet , what do they feel like compared to your Alpina?

I don't know which reviews you have been reading but everyone i have read has given praise for nearly every aspect of the car and that includes non BMW biased journalists.
The 1M looks fantastic from every angle unlike that subaru. You should have dug deeper as the residuals will be far better for the BMW and the exclusivity will undoubtedly be greater.

This is a 2.0 Japanese import, they don't sell it outside Japan.
The handling is incredible.
The Alpina is about 20 years out of date performance wise IMO.

Oh it's a grey import.
The JDM cars tend to have a greater spec and are more tuneable. But for the cost of a new one you could have gotten a 22B , which like the M3 is only going up in value now. You will need to check if the restricter has been removed because you'll only be able to get to 120mph
I have to admit , my P1 still blows my mind away with the performance and since I've had the custom zen performance engine installed it is even better. But the running costs are pretty eye watering at best. Most owners will use either Shell V-Power or Monmentum 99 , which soon gets gobbled up
Do the 2.0's suffer with the same bottom end issues the 2.5's do?

It's ok because there are 2 factors you haven't taken in to consideration..
1. You haven't seen it in the flesh!
2. You have overlooked the fact that I have incredible taste in cars!

1. True.. Pics "add 10 pounds", or make it hideous in this case
2. I see no evidence of this based on the above

The front looks "ok" but the sides and back look foul.
I'm sure it drives ok though.

I've seen one in the flesh, and sorry to break it to you, they are still a chud.
I'm sure you will enjoy it though and that's all that matters, and not like I can afford one!
