What a frigging mess this is....

Our daily run about Audi A4 TDI broke down yesterday on way home from work. I heard a nasty noise and pulled in, this is what we found after the AA towed me home.

The pulley from the viscous fan coupling seemed to have exploded

This is the inside of the pulley.

This is the mounting that it chewed the hell out of..

The viscous fan coupling that had the joining bolts sheared off.

Had to share it with everyone, as I've never seen a mess like it, from something like a pulley. The pictures don't do the mess any justice and there were small shards of metal all over the frigging engine bay..

Blimey! Wonder what caused that?

Was it the original? Or an aftermarket replacement to OE spec?

Recently changed a Steering Pump on a Movano and it sheered its pully 2 weeks later.
Also on the same van replaced the Idle Tensioner and this sheered off after 2 days on the vehicle.

Both mean't to be OE Spec parts, but now going through testing for refunds.

Probably coz the parts were made in China or something like that!

I had an e30 waterpump pully fail due to the drive belt not being on the right crank pully.

Meant the metal was being pulled forward slightly- and it failed before the belt did

Even worse - probably made in France! Movano is a rebadged Renault...... :D

Parts were all stamped up with vw audi so all original, really not sure wot caused it???!?!
Fitted new viscous coupling and belt so fingers crossed it wont throw a wobbley and break again.

Is there any vibration visible with the engine running maybe the alternator pulley causing trouble, maybe the fan got some damage and went of balance or maybe it just wore out.
