Quick update, done the service and crankshaft damper pulley kit, doesn't drive any different but the death rattle at idle has gone as the tensioner was foooooked.

Also cleaned out and blanked the EGR - no issues or warning lights since but again I can't say it drives any different other than less soot out of the back when you boot it.

Only very annoying thing that has happened is some tard in a focus decided to cut the Mrs up in it the other night forcing her off the road and damaging the front wing and bumper and then drove off at speed before she could get the plate. Got a ridiculous quote from a body shop which would have written the car off but thankfully got a sensible quote from one of danthe' recommendations at £260 to put it right. Still annoyed that the idiot who caused it has got away with it though.

Now the temp has dropped the heated front screen and seats are superb but an issue I had with the Mondeo has raised its head in the form of the oil cooler thermostat sticking meaning it runs too cool. Only about £25 so will be sorted shortly.

Access is tight but I followed a step by step guide from a Jag forum and it was straightforward enough I also had to borrow a special tool to install the tensioner - some say you can do it without but I really don't see how - the tensioning spring is very strong and the lever tool required to de tension it is about 2ft long. There is limited access to the tensioner so I can't really see how you could fashion a DIY tool to do the job. The actual tool is about £16 off ebay so not too bad

I have the special tool, done a few, very common for failing/being noisy. They aren't a nice job to do, and I've done a few. A mate of mine says you don't need the tool, but the springs are fecking stiff. And as you say for what they cost to make the job easier.

Sorry to read this,Rob,I noted the tale of woe elsewhere.

Trust that the repair will be satisfactory.

No spare time when the car,me and tools are at the same place,I'm afraid!

Not long now, though, floor tiles for the extension/kitchen are 'in stock' and the carpet will be laid next Saturday in the living room.
We fitted the kitchen unit carcass's this week,no funding available for doors until the sale in Lincoln completes...

So 6 months in I still have this, still love it. It does everything I need it to do really well.

Done the HID upgrade which was a ball ache but worth it.

First wash of the year a couple of weeks ago together with the first polish since I bought it.

Scrubs up nice.

Also invested in a proper mesh front grille rather than the plastic slatted jobbie which I prefer.

It's MOT is due next month - there's nothing I know of that it will fail on but I'm a bit nervous as it will be the first daily driver I've MOT'd since my Mondeo which I think was in 2011 - every car I've had since Ive either got bored with and sold before the MOT or sold because I knew it would need work for the MOT.
Anything that comes up on this I'm quite happy to fix

Quick update but ynothing really to report. MOT passed with no advisories at all - went underneath and its pretty much perfect.
Changed the cack mismatched budget tyres on the front for a pair of new goodyears and will be doing the same on the back shortly.
just over 9 months in this is the longest ive kept hold of a daily driver in about 5 years a˜„

Said goodbye to the Jag this weekend. I really enjoyed owning it, i suspect mine was a fairly good one as it didnt seem to have any of the big expensive issues that a lot of people have with them.
Good car IMO - if you do the mileage to warrant a diesel you could do a lot worse.
I sold it because id done exactly 5000 miles in a year and at the point of sale everything worked as it should. I didnt however fancy another 12 months of worrying about getting a £1000 diesel parts failure bill on a £3k car. It was on its original DMF, turbo, injectors and fuel pump so its only a matter of time.

Its lovely. Very well made, great spec and feels very modern.

You'll grow to hate it and wish you got the Type R. We had a 57 plate 1.8 Type S GT with the factory optional GP pack which consisted of a smaller version of the type R spoiler, 18's and colour coded body kit. I got so bored driving it after 9 months and chopped it in for a brand new Type R in 2009. Having came from driving my Corsa VXR and the wifes Fiat 500 abarth it was probably a stupid purchase.

There nice enough but not really that quick or economical, handling is a bit numb, the boot is huge though especially with the seats down. Ours averaged about 39MPG most of the time and the type R 36MPG.

Although we had ours for a very short period of time we had the wheels replaced under warranty as they had all blistered from under the paint and came as standard with the shiny anthracite finish that is impossible to get a paint match for if they got curbed.

The rear brakes were troublesome as well needing new discs and pads @30K and again at 40K due to the rear calipers binding and honda not managing to ever fix the problem properly, they also only stumped up for the calipers under the warranty claim.

At least being a petrol though you wont suffer the common clutch failures that the diesel's do.

I considered a Type R but to get the equivalent age, condition mileage and spec as what ive got would have been about £2k more than i paid. Add to that the Type R's rubbish urban economy and rock hard suspension and i really didnt want one.

This does everything i need it to do, and it feels like a modern new car which is nice. Its not quick by any means but if you rev it it gets down the road nicely enough. Im having to adopt my old Alfa driving habits again
The only fault with the whole car was a wiper motor issue with them not parking correctly which is similar to the issue that E30's have and required exactly the same fix - i had the motor and linkage out, cleaned the electrical contacts which fixed the problem and back in inside an hour. Very easy to work on. It now needs literally nothing fixing which is fine with me.
