A friend has a '60 plate Renault Megan, with the 1.5 DCi Lump

She said today it has started running a bit rough. Had a look, first thing I can see is air is being pumped through the diesel lines and she said there was a noise coming from the front corner. where there would appear to be a swirl pot for the incoming diesel?

Any common problems that would lead to it getting air into the diesel lines?

The pic isnt that clear but are your sure the "swirl pot" isnt the fuel filter?

The black bulbous shaped thing in the fuel line just to the left of your top left red arrow is a hand pump for filling the fuel filter after changing it and appears to be in line before the thing you think is the swirl pot.

These Meganes are after my time at Renault so i dont know the exact layout of them fuel wise but that hand pump that many Renault engines have is always before the filter.

Has the car been serviced recently? If im right and the "swirl pot" is actually a fuel filter, it may have not been fitted correctly allowing air in causing the running issue.

Hi guys, yep Barry I think you are right in the filter rather than the swirl pot idea!

The air is coming into the system before the filter so guessing its something between the tank and where it enters the engine bay area.

With the engine off, try giving the hand pump a few pumps and see what happens with regards to air bubbles.

Being a 60 plate surely thats still under the 3 year warranty. Would you not be better getting it back into renault, touch wood our 61 plate megane hasn't had any of the usual renault gremlins.

On these, there may be a bleed screw on the fuel filter. Slacken this, put a length of rubber hose over it and into a jar and use the hand pump to bleed the air out. Could also be a bloked tank breaker - try it with the fuel cap off.
There are two types of filter. One is a complete unit that you swap over, the other is a paper element.
Air in the fuel line coming into the hand pump could be many things - split fuel line, buggered electric lift pump etc. It needs to go to a dealer!

hi there guys the ecu in these car lies in the inner splash gaurd and get wet ...
try removing it and putting it in the airing cuboard for the wkend ???

failing that it could maybe be injector seals there bad for it drawing air......

Spoke too soon, the exhaust heat shield fell off this morning. Not what you expect from a £28k car thats only just over a year old.

At least renualt are all lubed up and are covering it under warranty.

Some crazy fools spunked more than that on freakshows like the Vel Satis and the Avantime!

Not sure how much Clio V6's were but at least they were interesting and a bit off the wall.
