So, as mentioned in an other thread, i am forced to sell my E30 Convertible, as it was originally to be my daily driver for the nice commute i do along the coast every day....

Now i will need to incorporate a drop off at the Child Minder and Nursery and have baby seats in the back and a 1yo and a 4yo making all the carnage they make in a car...... So, having a Jag as my toy and the wife will maintain the use of our old 318i Touring. I need a new, daily that i wont be as precious about as the E30, but can still have a bit of fun in, on the remainder of my commute after i have dropped off the kids....

This seemed to fit the bill, so picked it up the other day.
My brother is a service manager at a Renault Main Dealer, otherwise I may not have contemplated a Renault, but he checked it over and it was all good, having a recent clutch, full service history and the hugely expensive cambelt change all recently done at his dealership.

It has covered 70k, and has some nice options, including Xenons, climate, auto lights and auto wipers, and whilst the pics don’t show it, its in a striking pale metallic blue/silver.

It's lots of fun to drive, with lift off oversteer seeming to be one of its specialities :-) Although i am still using the E30 as my daily whilst i have the chance.

Anyway, i know its not an E30, but I thought I’d post a few pics.... was going to try and take a couple next to the Motorsport Edition, but have not had chance to get them both in the same place....

For a French turd these are ok. Pretty reliable (for french) good fun (for FWD) and quite nippy.

BUT! I would not be ferrying my kids about in one!

They will be ok.... drive with sensible hat on when they are in the car, and if they break anything then i'll give the car to my brother for him to sort. and the thing only owes me £1500.00 with no point buying an estate or large car when we already have an E36 Touring for bigger journeys or trips away.

Being able to have to have work done at a Renault Dealer Service centre for £30ph labour and cost on parts, is a bonus of having this, as my time for enjoying cars is increasingly rare, tinkering and cleaning etc rarer still and i'd rather just enjoy my other car when i do get those precious moments.... This thing is just a tool first and foremost.

My concern is not so much on your ability to keep you children safe, its other road users!

I have seen plenty of clio 2's that have been hit up the arse and they do not fare well.

I did two and a half years at a Renault UK body shop and service centre so have seen these turds after all kinds of shunts. Front impacts are ok but not side or rear.

When i met my mrs she had a 1.2 16V clio 2 and as soon as she fell pregnant it was the first thing to go.

Barry tells the truth, I worked in a Renault bodyshop when these were new, stay away from potholes is the first piece of advice along with always wear your seat belt!

I briefly had one with the idea of having a track sat car. Very good value for such a nippy little car.

Great cars! I had one for 2 and a half years, regret selling it but the French cars just arent as well built!

Would fare no better in an accident than most modern plastic contraptions!

Thanks for the advice, and concern chaps......

I appreciate you guys that have worked in Renault bodyshops have probably seen some real horrors, but i have a friend who works at a vehicle recovery centre where they hold cars that have been in accidents, and anything and everything can have its entire rear end crumple to nothing if its hit hard and fast enough.

Re: potholes, I would avoid them like the plague, even more so in this Renault as the suspension is so hard and the wheels seem to be very soft (relatively speaking) and there is very little sidewall on the tyres.

On a side note...... Getting to the dipstick on these things is ridiculous!!!!
