My father owned this car since 2004 in Netherlands, I always loved it as a teenager. It ended up in his garage for 8 years, so I twisted his arm and went over and transported it to England and registered it accordingly. I had new cills, front wings replaced, with new floor pans and rear bumper welded up. Partial respray and paint work tidy up, colour coding bumper and door strips. Had the underneath sealed also.

The engine felt a bit pokey for the 316 it was registered as, found out recently that its an engine from an E36, unsure which one though (if anyone could advise me on how to find out, please advise) I have front springs to slightly lower it so its level with rear, and fog lights, both yet to be installed.

I am after a new project, and am willing to sell this, but haven’t got a clue how much its worth, as I know certain elements aren't original. There are a couple of dints one on bonnet and one on driver door, a few tiny cosmetic rust spots on boot lip and door crease/corner. Needs 3 of the 4 hub caps, they are a fortune 😬. Has 96k km on clock, I am unsure whether this is for the E36 engine or the original clock. The engine bay could do with a clean up also.

The car has not been started since september last year and Sorn’d soon after. I reconnected battery today and it started with first turn 👌it has done approx 1000 mile since the last MOT 2 yr ago.

So my question is, what sort of money would I ask when selling this, I am in no rush to sell and this my first experience with Forums, so any help
Or advice will be much appreciated.

I have more photos and close up video when running, available on request.

Welcome to the Zone! Car looks good. If the engine is indeed from an E36, it will probably be either an M40, M42, M43 or M44 engine, the M42 and M44 engines being twin cams, similar to the M42 that was fitted to the E30 318is.

Do you have any pics of the engine bay, so that Zoners can identify it? There should also be a BMW serial number stamped on the block somewhere (usually on the inlet manifold side), which will positively identify it...

I thought we had to stipulate a price - not "what's it worth"?
