1994 ‘318is’ Touring
M42 Conversion on ~80k miles, shell on 102k
It comes with great regret that I’m having to put my beloved touring up for sale, Laguna Green was probably my least favourite colour until I bought this car and now i’ve found myself smiling at any green car owner I pass. Due to the fact I’ll soon be moving country and will have nowhere to store my car, I’m hoping to find a similar minded enthusiast to take car and appreciate it the way i’ve tried! The car started as a 316i and was converted using the M42 from another E30 by Bavarian Motorworks in Glasgow. Unfortunately, the previous owner to myself didn’t have the time required to put the car back on the road after failing it’s MOT in 2015 and so dry stored it until I purchased it - Since then, it’s had the rust cut out and treated where necessary in the floor pans, complete suspension overhaul with lowering springs all round and new shocks, a new full exhaust system and just before it’s most recent MOT, a full service. In my ownership, I’ve also had the bonnet, both front wings and tailgate repainted, replacing both front wings with new panels. The car also sits on 17” Dare RS Replica wheels which, with almost brand new tyres all round.
Interior-wise, there are very few things to criticise, the headlining (as with most tourings) has started to sag towards the rear - an easy enough fix, just something I haven’t had time to do myself! The passenger’s seat also has a small amount of fraying which I’ve bought a replacement section for retrimming. The dash is probably one of the best i’ve seen, no cracking whatsoever or any other marks as usually expected. The Momo steering wheel isn’t the most appropriate fit for a mostly OEM looking car, although I do have a Mtech 1 Steering wheel which I can include in the sale if preferred. Sunroof works perfectly and the car has front electric windows - the stereo has bluetooth and AUX and i’ve had new 5” Alpine speakers installed in the fronts. I’ve recently had an insurance approved cat 1 alarm / immobiliser fitted, alongside a GPS tracker to add some security to it.
As far as history and paperwork goes, I received with the car original BMW Paperwork with frequent main dealer service history and all the documentation one would hope to find when buying a classic - original owners manuals, warranty documents etc. A neat addition!
Things to bear in mind -
It’s not a perfect car, there are some small dings, some imperfections etc. but for an E30 it’s clean! The instrument cluster doesn’t show the correct revs as the chip needs changing - very easy fix and won’t affect anything if it doesn’t bother you. There is also a slight vibration at higher speeds, I’ve been told it’s most likely the guibo needing replacing. It’s not noticeable when driving around town but over 60/70mph it kicks in.
Overall it’s a very clean and mostly rust free car, lots of the difficult to do / annoying jobs have already been done, and if you’re wanting an honest car there’s really not many things it needs. It’s a great drive in all types of weather and has the versatility of being an estate car. Please feel free to contact me if you think i’ve missed anything / have any questions. I’ll consider offers so long as they’re reasonable. I’ve tried to highlight all the imperfections so that there’s no surprises for anyone genuinely interested, viewings are more than welcome and recommended!
