E30 m10b18 keep engine or swap in terms of classic value?

Hello everyone,

I got an facelift 2dr e30 with a m10b18 engine that im slowly restoring, repainting and such. I am planing to either swap the engine for an m52b25 or refresh this one.

Now i am wondering if i am destroying a potential classic in the, lets say, far future. In terms of value in lets say 10-20 years, would it be more valuable if it had the original engine in a really good condition or does it not matter and should i look into swapping it?

What are your guys opinions on this one? Thanks!

Yes it will be more valuable with the original engine but I'm not sure what you expected? How great the difference will be will be down to many other things.

It won't be completely original if you are restoring it, bigger effect on the value will be the quality of the restoration, and the condition it ends up in in 10-20 years.

If it was an original minter with good history then the original matching numbers engine would make a big difference.

Depends what you want to drive for the next 10-20 years?

If you have the ability, store the old engine and everything that comes off, in 10-20 years restore it again (as it will need it) put everything back.

Every detraction from original will know chunks off of the value, a scruffy, totally original e30 is worth more than a tarted up one with low profiles, engine swap etc.
Going to great pains to make sure my repair on the left wing is genuine BMW not cheap copy and paint has NO CLEAR COAT alpineweiss 1.
But If one wants a chopped. slammed, and hot E30 for the hell of it, go for it, every F****d up one increases the value of mine, :-)
