Just curious about building a 2.3m10
using an s14 m3 crank, m30 pistion, m30 conrods and all that
iv seen on an american site that its not a straight fit and the front crank seal wont fit straight
Also would it rock itsself apart ? iv read that it would rock and rattle very bad is this true?
any info would be apricated

It's not a 2.3 it's a 2.2 as the m30 bore is less than the s14 bore
the m30 conrods are the same as a m10
You need to machine the m10 engine cover to take the s14 crank seal
And no it will not rock it's self apart as long as you build it right

is it much of an improvement? more tuneable?
is it much of a job to machine it?
how much power would it roughly push out on webers and mabe a high lift cam

machining the front cover is straight forward for a half decent engineer with a milling machine.
as for power the extra cc will help, a lot depends on your cam choice but with a fast road cam and a bit of head work 150bhp should be easy.
i built a race 2.5 litre m10 it pushed out 240bhp!

For the benefit of those who think M10 horsepower can be obtained cheaply , let us have a reality check. How much did that 240 BHP donk cost you ?

i never said it was cheap!
its difficult to put a price on it, lots of bits that went into the engine i already had.
given an m3 block i could probably replicate it for £4k

Ok I have just sourced a counterweight crank ie a 2l crank which is 80mm stroke, M10 crank. I intend to take my 318i blok of 89mm and to bore it to 92mm. The piston I believe was sourced from some other bmw engine I think the V8.
I have done some rough estimations and the piston top height on the bigger piston is lower and it seems with the 80mm crank and 318 std rods it will be below deck 1mm.
I am wondering if it will be a major performance loss having the squish that size.
I an running sidedrafts with schrick 292 cam.
Anyone done this conversion.?

As soon as S14 was mentioned, the cost would shoot upwards, good engine build though, best of luck with it.

well you need half the number of valves and cams on the M10 so its alot cheaper. also alot cheaper than an 6 cyl. if you re going to do an M10 why not the biggest crank you can find? the head can be fettled nicely

Can't you turbo the m10 nicely? Or are you looking to stay with carbs ?
