E30 Zone

So any of you M60b40 boys overcome your cooling issues ? I mean ......really overcome them ?!! I did Goodwood last weekend and bloody loved it !! The car was awesome and behaved really well .......When I was driving it .......fairly fast.....temp was nearly 3/4 ......... My nephew who is fearless drove it and we had to back of ........ just to hot ....... temp came straight down on cool down lap and behaved in-between ........ it was 30' outside ......... so what's the answer ? Please don't start going on about head gaskets etc ......coz they are fine ......done sniff test etc ......... I have lightweight bonnet with louvres ...... and mishimoto rad ......... am now looking at a custom water pump pulley or an electric conversion .......bonnet scoops ........... someone must know the secret to keeping these engines reasonably cool when driven really hard ?

Sorry to state the obvious, but have you thought about using a lower temp stat?

No worries .... I can't find one to fit the V8 ...... but have drilled 4 holes in the top of the one in it....... I will probably take it out anyway ......but if you know of a lower temp one for the V8 ?

I run an 80° in my 4.4 and the temp at the sensor which is in the stat housing sits around 92/93
Im sure I've seen them as low as 72° available on the net

have found a 75deg kit and am fitting 2 extra oil coolers this week am hoping that will do the trick !!

Oil cooler makes a big difference if your hammering around a race track

I have seen very low running ones also, obviously im still in shopping list/planning phase but will try and dig up the link. I wasn't sure what to choose, obviously these things need replaced when engine is on a pallet and I didn't know how cool to go, and although mine wont be tracked it would appear the cooler the better

I run a 82 degree thermostat in my s/c 4.4, with a 92-87 degree fan switch. My gauge reads about 1/4 when driving and gets to about 1/3 when in traffic.
My digital gauge with the sensor in the heater rail reads 85 at the coolest (50-60mph) and has seen 95 degrees in traffic or when parking up on a hot day. My fan and rad struggle with keeping temps down in traffic.
I'm running a custom rad underneath the slam panel due to the 'charger pulley not allowing much space for a rad and cooling fan in the usual place....
I don't have bonnet vents or oil cooler/s, but do have ceramic coated manifolds.

Looks like I have sussed it ..........i now have 2 extra oil coolers mounted in front of the rad......have cut 5 large holes in the bumper and a large cut out in the valance........I can now nail it with out backing of on track !!

I am sure you've covered it, but depending on what Temp Gauge and Sender you are using they might not be calibrated to show accurate temp. Have you measure the engine temp at the thermostat or rear water accumulator pipe with an infrared thermometer or used a mechanical temperature gauge?
