Sensors required for start up

I have been trying to get my M60 to fire for the first time and I'm hitting a road block. I'm not getting any spark.
I have a few sensors not connected. (02 sensors, static oil level and evap sensor) Are any of these required for start up?

Thanks

Hmh, that's a good question. O2 sensors are definitely not needed but i'm not sure about the others.

Do you have manual or automatic gearbox & ECU? (The ECU might think that the gear selector is somewhere else than "P" so it does not allow starting). Where is the engine wiring harness from? Are the knock sensors from same type of engine as the wiring harness / ECU?

The starter motor is cranking anyways?

Maybe this can give you some idea http://users.tkk.fi/~jhaukile/ETC/C101_X20.pdf

The engine is M60B40 from a 95 740. The harness is from a 94 automatic 530i. I have 2 different DMEs, one from an 93 740 and the other from the 94 530 and I've tried both. I'm using the M60B40 knock sensors.

The engine cranks when I turn the key, so I think I bypassed the shifter select switch properly.

I don't have EWS but there is a clicking sound when I turn the key, which I assume is the fuel pump relay.
