E30 shell for S50B32

Hi everyone, after deciding to break my 3.2 e36 M3 due to some rust points coming through I am now keen to carry out the conversion into an E30.
one question I have is,
Are all E30 shells the same? by that I mean are all the chassis, engine bays etc
the only difference I know of is the battery tray in the engine bay on the smaller engine models.
I have found a couple of really tidy 316 and 318 shells- would these be ok?
Any help and advice would be great so I can start my search for a nice E30 base for the conversion!
