Knocking big ends :D

Joking aside...... it should idle dead smooth, to the point you can balance a pound coin on the rocker cover! hold the revs around 3k for a few seconds and let the throttle snap shut if the vanos growls on idle its gonna need a rebuild soon. A nice s50 will have nice clean oil!! If its still in a car, the condition of that car will tell you all you need to know :D

Ok check the oil and idle I will do that , I was hoping to get someone to look at it ( pay them of course ) but I guess I will just have to do the best I can and hope . Thing is the engine being in the car still how do I know it's the one that will be sent to me ? They may switch and give me a fooked one ? How do I counter that ?

Before it goes in your e30 make sure you inspect the big ends for ware, if in doubt replace them and fit arp rod bolts unless you like a gamble!

This guy has 352 feedback and 100 pc I might take the plunge at 1.2 k ?

Another option is to have your existing bottom end rebuilt, it may cost a bit more than 1.2k but then its good as new! You could get the crank knifed, oil jurnals reamed, vibration damper, crank, flywheel, clutch pressure plate bolted and balanced, new oil rings and bearings fitted and it will be miles better than a secondhand engine!

I am so lost right now just been offered another and the guy has 352 feedback 100 PC so now not sure what to do he seems genuine and I'm thinking of taking the plunge he does not want to be paid straight off but when he has taken it out and I have heard it running . Inspection welcome . What do you think ?

Whatever you decide to do don,t cut corners. If you want another engine go and inspect it, if your not happy, its not money wasted just part of what you have to do to not get ripped off. The guy could be 100% genuine and have a good engine for sale but does he know what a good vanos should sound like or an engine thats knocking or any other indicators of trouble, who knows!

When its knocking how do you really know ?

It can be easy to detect when its quite bad, or not so easy and reqire some load/rpm if its slight. If someone has to discribe it best to get your mechanic to do the inspection. As i say who knows it could be ok.

This is the smart answer. Pay heed Elias.
