Anyone had oil pump problem and not got oil pressure after rebuild there engine?
Currently go no pressure
I think I ll be removing the sump tomorrow to check mine tomorrow - should there be anything I should be looking for?

Also is it engine back out or can the sump be removed with the subframe in place?

When my oil pump was being fitted they asked for 1 ltr of oil to prime the pump, they got blob of vaseline type grease and inserted it somewhere in the pump and then poured some oil in. I was told this will help the pump create inital preassure. I,d not heard of it before though.

First of all is the pencil drive in?

It can be hard for the pump to prime itself because it doesn't pump air too well, best thing to do is get the sump off remove the oil pump and fill it from the top, this will help it prime, then turn it over on the starter till the light goes out.

To take the sump off is tricky, there is a way described in the wiki, but I do it a little different.

Unbolt engine mounts, rad top mounts and exhaust. Lift the engine, try to lift the off side up more than the near, you only need a few inches. Then remove the sump bolts, you can then get to the oil pump bolts remove this and leave in in the sump. With a bit of juggling the sump can be withdrawn towards the front of the car.

A mate told me about back filling the pump by filling the filter then turning the engine backwards but had no luck with this!
Looks like sump is coming off!
Just given my engine crane to a friend so going to have to go get it back!
well pissed of as now it's cracking and I have got the fuel pumps working so was hoping to get the mot booked!

Id be having the filter housing off and trying to fill from the side of the block before removing the sump

on my 325 i had the same thing happen, i took the sump off without touching the engine mounts,exhaust,rad,s.rack,cross member.just take the splash sheilds off,take off the alloy bracket at the back off sump to bell houseing.un do sump bolts,drop sump,un bolt oil pump&drop into sump,THEN UN DO THE LARGE NUT& DRAIN TUBE ON THE O/S in side the engine, that stops you from pulling the sump out.now you can slide the sump out. it is tricky but can be done!take the bottom off the oil pump and pack with vaseline.put it all back together,fill with oil (lift the back of the car to flood the oil pump with oil,all helps)take all the spark plugs out,crank it over a few short bursts at a time.you should then have pressure up.

I have just stripped my oil pump today, after getting it on good authority that the pressure relief valves sticks in the bore even on NEW PUMPS.....

My pump had only done 40k miles, internals were mint, apart from item 9, showing slight wear to coating, going to get items 13, 12, 11, 10, 9 to be on the safe side...both pumping gears were mint, as was the housing.

You might want to get the pump off and check that the pressure relief valve is not stuck.

Oh, and careful when compressing the circlip, it's got a spring loaded piston behind it, wants to pop out real quick.

You'll need to replace circlip and O ring (Items 13 & 11) if you take it apart, just to be on the safe side.

normally I wouldnt think about doing such a think but being so close to getting the car on the road I would try most things.


As it hasnt worked I will be stripping the subframe and sump this weekend to get it working- I hope!
