Im hoping I have my facts right but has anybody done a m5 3.8 conversion in the e30 ? I think that may be a pretty fast car , would the engine fit in the bay ? Would there be a lot of fabrication needed ? I have not owned a m5 yet may buy one soon with the hope of a future conversion in the next few months .

Yes, has been done. Hartge made the H36 (or H36-24) which was the E30 M3 powered by the 3.6 M5 engine. Only 6 made I think.
There was 1 on here powered by the 3.8 lump (by karan I think), but if u check out
http://www.e30.de there's a few more in the galleries.
Heavy engine, a cross between fitting the M30 and S50, so a bit more work than fitting an S50 I'd say. I remember the one on here using a custom ally radiator to try and keep it cool, but that might of been down to its drifting use!
