Just a quick question, for purposes of commisioning and getting up to temp is there a better oil to use?

Its going to be used at running temp for less than a mile and then dropped to flush the old stuff out,

Cheers

Coolio,

just pm'd Ian with the wiring info request,

plan is to molest the loom into the 4 pot cover asap, gaskets etc will be ordered tomorrow,

moordoor can be attacked following friday or just after if your still up for it?

Will build up the lump ready to go in from below, drop m20, remove from subframe and replace with s50, will swap servo in the next few days and start getting used to that...

Will also relocate teh battery to the boot with the kit that came out of the m3...

Cant think of much else to expidite the process... :)

While i'm thinking about it is it the standard e30 flexi from master hardline to slave cylinder?

Had a search and didn't see anything, figure the one thats there is damn near brand new...

Could do with a gearbox mount and 328 prop if you have them kicking about Nath?

I need to order some gearbox bush mounts and an oil filter along with a few other bits but the bulk of it is there...

Diesel oil is good for an engine flush as it is full of detergents, however I'm not sure if I would put it in something like an s50. Also can run into problems with bits of carbon being loosened and blocking up things like hydraulic adjusters.

I'm Happy with 10w40 to flush in the 1st instance, regular short interval complete oil changes following that should help.

Filters and g-box mounts ordered, have new center bearing for the prop, damn, i've forgotton the prop donut! :-x

Donut ordered,

Sump windage tray removed, SA emmisions blanking plate fitted, Turner motorsport oil cooler line adaptor fitted, aircon pump removed,

Closer and closer...

just a thought with oil priming following the pick up change,

Im planning on filling the cooler and lines so far as is possible, can oil be introduced to the filter housing that will make its way down to the pump?

Perhaps a big no-no but the thought just struck me... :)

Fresh report from Machine shop,

Big end shells look 'brand new' so ARP's wil be fired in shortly.

Jhonno's old wiring loom has pitched up care of Peet.

e46 compact rack adorns the garage floor and I need to send my UJ's off to you Dan (sorry it hasn't happened sooner was waiting on another one to arrive).

just need to solve the oil cooler problem now and the engine can be installed & started -on that note, can i use the stock cooler and the part of the lines that bolt to it?

Idea is just to chop the engine hard lines from the pipes and fit adaptors and some extra pipe with joiners to the turner motorsport fixing if you follow me?

Any pictures available of the e36 m3 oil cooler mounted to the e30 crossmember? :?

I chopped the crossmember out and replaced it with some tube

Image

Or you can use the M20 cooler with the pipes turned round/tweaked and the flexi's cut and joined to the S50 flexi's

Hmmm,

Seems a bit invasive -would the m20 cooler deliver the performance required?
thought i'd snap a pic:

That lower cross member is made of tinfoil anyway, that bar is probably alot stronger than original box section.

The M20 cooler will work fine mate. I have a good guy to make the lines up. A bit of braided line, a few aN fittings= jobbed :D

Will hold one cooler against the other while dinner is being cooked...

Are the m20 cooler lines 1/2" bsp thread if so the following should do...
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mocal-90-Deg- ... 3f11941f62

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mocal-Moquip- ... 2ebafb47ac

Then some adapter to the 10an fittings on the oil housing and we're there... i think...

:D

BMW oil coolers are an odd thread.. I've not yet heard of someone being able to match the threads to a sizing.

Jhonno is correct, i tried to get fittings for a m5 oil cooler no one could match them. so( think automotive) sold me some alloy fittings to get welded on to the ends of the cooler, which worked a treat and still fits in the orig e30 position.

Cooler to one side for the moment,

Fooking servo/MC combo! -not at all happy with making up a spacer:

Well not perminantly anyway, do we know if the WMS calipers can be taylored to the displacement of a larger MC?

No, dramatic change of plans, S14B25 ala Sport evo spec.

It'd be rude not to,

Pictures taken of sump'd and ARP'd engine shortly...

goosiegander wrote:...do we know if the WMS calipers can be taylored to the displacement of a larger MC?
The three sizes of T20 caliper we offer are:

1.25"/1.25" piston = 87.5% of OEM area (the default on our E30 kits)
1.38"/138" piston = 106.6% of OEM area
1.62"/1.75" piston = 159.2% of OEM area

If you're going for a slightly larger master cyl than standard then the 1.38/1.38 size is a safe bet I expect - the largest one is huuuuge. :D
