Hello folks,

Just wondering what gearboxes fit the S50? Is the bolt pattern the same as an M30? If not, then what is the S50 similar / same as?

Cheers,

The s50 is the same as the m5*, plus m4* bell housing pattern ,also the same as the m20 but the engine is tilted over an extra 5deg

I have a 265 dogleg box behind the s50

Ah... Now we are onto something! I have a dogleg 262 (265) attached to the back of my M20 right now so wondering what I would need? Straight swap for the M20?

Sorry - a bit more meat on the bone to my last query... Does the S50 therefore bolt straight onto a bellhousing that is an M20 bolt pattern? It would be great to be able to use the dogleg box with the S50.. I understand that engine mounts, exhaust manifolds wiring etc are all going to be totally different and all part of the fun of the installation...!

Also - heard the weight of the S50 is an issue? Am I wrong in stating this?

Many thanks,
Mike

The dog leg will bolt up, do you have an m20 spec dogleg or an m30/s14 spec dogleg as i doubt the m20 dogleg would take the abuse

The box bolts up but in e30 it is best to put the s50 at the orginal mounting angle so you will have to put a twist in the gear linkage

Ah - that makes sense! The 'Box is out of an M535 so originally M30 - just swapped the bellhousing for an M20 one from a US 528e... Should be OK. My Diff is a 325i sport LSD - hoping that can take ~300hp?

Sorry to keep picking your brains Jason - engine mounts and whatnot I can find out about elsewhere on the forum but wanted to ask.. Outside of wiring - what's the biggest hassle with the conversion? Any subframe mods for example? Exhaust manifolds? I guess fuel pump also needs to be changed for 5 bar?

Cheers,
Mike

Mines going in the e21 so the exhaust etc are all a bit different but plenty of info in the s50 engine section
