I want to drop a bigger engine in my 318 1990 touring... its a m40 engine with tappy sound big time, getting new oil bar fitted this week and oil pump looked at (Pressure test)

Whats the best engine to drop into this and the easiest?

People really need to give more information when asking these questions as it's quite something to undertake and with no info, accurate advice cannot be given not having a dig but think about it.

Whats the purpose of the car (daily, weekend, track....???), what's your skill level? What's your budget? What do you want from the new engine?

i want a better engine.... not too much trouble to swap... its a daily and i dont want to spend out on new camshaft for the m40... i can spend around 600 all in. i like the sound of the m42 engine. if i can pick up the m42 318is engine i would like to track someone down to fit it for me at a price... i heard i need just the lump, ecu and loom along with some other engine bay bits.

my skill level is crap with engine swaps... so will need to find someone in south of england to help.
